Toughest Schedules in 2026 at the Midpoint

Post by StateChamp97 »

So far at the mid-point of the 2026 season I would have to say it's the Granger Lions in 2AD1. After losing 18 seniors from a 12-1 team last year, so far they have played Mason (#2 in D1) and Goldthwaite (#7 in D2) with Rosebud Lott (#6 in D1) and Thorndale (#10 in D1) both still looming in district.

A 6-4 or 5-5 season record, and 3rd or 4th place district finish this year would be respectable with 2 top 10 teams in the same district. Next year those mainly juniors/sophomores should be leading the charge to another district championship & solid playoff run .

Not quite that stout, but De Leon has played DCTF preseason D1 #21 San Saba, D2 #17 Stamford, D2 #6 Albany, undefeated D2 #13 Goldthwaite, and previously undefeated 3A-D1 Early.

Absolutely throttled all of them except Goldthwaite on the road.

De Leon’s 5 non district opponents have a combined record of 18-6.

Shiners schedule is pretty tough too, 3AD2 Industrial, 3AD1 Orange Grove, #4 3AD2 Poth and 3AD2 Boling. With #5 Ganado and #7 Kenedy remaining. I know Kenedy isn’t top 10 in here. But they are in the AP poll/DCTF poll. Not to mention Weimar this week who just took Kenedy to the wire. 2AD1 District 15 might be the toughest district in 2AD1. And everything I just said about Shiners schedule, you can pretty much say about Ganados too.

Our district is definitely tough. I agree it's the toughest in state. 3 top 7 teams in state.

Cooper opened with a top 25 team in Grand Saline, top 10 2A D2 Collinsville, & a pretty solid 3A D2 Edgewood team. Edgewood is huge up front & was winless in non-district, but that was against Malakoff, Troup, Commerce & Cooper.

Cooper struggled to get the offense going against Geand Saline in the opener, but they started to click in the new offense in week 2 against Collinsville. Cooper could be the sleeper of Region 3
