I was perusing this website https://texashighschoolfootballhistory. ... ss_records
and was looking through the Windthorst football seasons. My older brothers' senior years were Fall of 79 and Fall of 82. I was surprised to see Don Flippin listed as the HC for 1979 for 2 reasons: 1) I didn't remember him or my brothers ever mentioning him in that capacity. I thought Dave Fuller was the HC that season. and 2) I ended up playing at Rider later on, and Coach Flippin was one of the assistants. Windthorst never came up in our conversations.
Any clarity there? Granted I was 9 YO at the time, but I generally knew who our coaches were.

Thanks to Zach Duncan...I subscribe to Newspapers.com...anyway so I found a story in the Wichita Falls Times on Nov 25, 1979 about three coaches growing beards during the playoffs since there is a school rule in which students cannot have facial hair. In that story it states Dave Fuller was the head coach.

Yeah, I was pretty sure Dave Fuller was the HC and he left after the season to coach baseball at Rider, no less. His son, Mike, was a grade above me and he ended up being a standout QB at Arlington High, and eventually a damn good FB coach.
Thank you for that answer. I remember that postseason- WHS beat Gorman at Mineral Wells and then fell to Valley View at Bowie. The beards didn't have a long time to grow!
