By my count, I excluded sterling city, cause I heard they were going 6-man. But I got 214, last time I believe there were 206. That’s between 105 and 254, including the low teams that opt up. So they very well could lower the cutoffs this time.

Well that Far West district 3 might get very interesting and unfortunate for a few teams lol. Anthony 235, Alpine 250 and Tornillo 238 might all possibly drop. I had to look it up, but Tornillo went to an outlaw schedule the last few years due to travel and low numbers. However, they plan to return in 2026. I imagine if Alpine and Tornillo drops to 2AD1 so will Anthony. Meaning someone closer this way, probably 2 teams at least will end up going west. Reagan County, Ozona, Colorado City…. Maybe all 3 lol!

I know football rules the roost but I still think the total number of basketball only schools will play a factor in the cut-off number. Would be helpful if those were included in the total number.

Yeah I hear ya. I saw on the app that 3A has like 115 non football schools that fall in the last alignments numbers, but only 203 that play football. There’s currently 215 by my count for 2A that play football. Thought that was interesting. I don’t think it’s that many more non football schools in 2A though. Maybe 30 more. 40 at the most. Crazy stats.

Not sure where that 115 number is coming from, perhaps that is total 3A and below.

Based on these numbers, that is why I think the number of Basketball schools is important for the top cut-off number.

I saw a on X that of the schools that existed in 2023 and 2025 enrollment is down 44,244 students. If you add in the schools not there in 2023, that only regains 14,165 students, so a decrease of 30K students in UIL.
