People on the app used to get mad when I'd tell them about our youth teams doing so well and how it would translate to hs. Some of it might not but even with my own kid it doesn't take long until you can see if they're talented. 5 years old.

If you get them started early and playing together, longer, it usually translates. Again, I’m new to the area, but one town I recognize that does it right from an early age, is Shiner. My experience has been with Baseball, but I’d imagine they do it in Football too. Good organization of coaches and keeping the kids practicing together half of the year, from 8 to HS.

What all of this is, is Culture. Culture almost always wins if one is better than the other.

Shiner keeps their hs coaches. Ganado never has had a hc for football longer than 6 years. This is Ervin's 4th as a hc and 8th overall in Ganado. He's 31 so hopefully we get another 20 out of him. 😆

Appreciate the compliment. I’ll pass that on to the AD. 2 is his. 6 is my oldest.

7th and 8th combined tonight

Goldthwaite 56
Frost 7

I would put our 8th grade team against any 8th grade (2A)
and a lot of the 3A -8th grade teams.

Now having said that I will say this.
Winning on Thursday nights doesn’t necessarily translate to winning on Friday nights. Speed and athleticism will win you a lot of games on Thursday night, but on Fridays it takes more than just that. The years we won state and were very successful we wasn’t always the most athletic team on the field. But we were the best TEAM on the field. That takes great coaching to succeed at that level.
And that’s the truth.
