Man I’m not trying to put down a school, or it’s kids or staff. But this is something think just had to be shared… Marlin has apparently had to postpone their graduation ceremonies into June. Apparently on Wednesday only 5 out of 33 total seniors had met the requirements to graduate…

Saw that on FB, that is messed up. I can understand one student missing some credits but 85% of the class…WOW!! Somebody better being losing their job over this. Didn’t Marlin lose their school board and were run by the state.

They had a pretty successful sports year so it could also be too many missed days due to athletic participation.

Yeah after reading the article it seems to be a mixture of grades and missed days.

Yes they did, lost a lot of kids to other schools as a result. They were supposed to be coming back out of it. But maybe not…

Definitely not what any school would want. The part I couldn't seem to understand from the article is where are the alarm bells going off. I would think it should have been brought to the principals attention at some point well ahead of graduation that we are potentially going to have a massive amount of negative press due to less than a fifth of the class reaching graduation eligibility let alone taking for granted ensuring student success. Another point is what is happening on the home front that there is that widespread of an attendance gap. Someone closer to the situation would likely know more but to an outsider looking in it seems the ball was dropped from the top on down. Definitely not something you want your school to make the news for. Hope the kids can get there diplomas after some weeks of putting in the work.

Exactly!! Whoever was in charge of oversight obviously failed at their job. Many years back my niece wanted to play golf, just to do it, but wasn’t allowed since she was close to meeting her limit of missed days!
