Well, looks like the UIL has answered and said it’s okay. Interesting that the UIL says it will be allowed, but that districts can make up their own policy in regards to them being eligible to play if they aren’t going to school in person.

TEA says it has already ordered 53,000,000 PPE for schools. Abbott says you must offer on-campus instruction this fall. All we need now is reasonable guidelines from the superintendents (UIL). The current guidance won’t work when regular drills start and/or pads come on and hitting starts.
Heard a guy explain today that, unless a carrier is coughing, etc, it requires quite prolonged (15 minutes) of physical contact, and even longer in a outdoor setting. Most all contagion occurs indoors via droplets, he claimed.
Hope he’s right.

Fort Bend ISD stated they will begin the school year 100% online. No in-person extracurriculars will occur during this period of distance learning.

Nebraska held its annual Shrine Bowl All-Star game last weekend. They think it was the first football game in the US since the XFL shut down in March. Kansas plans to have its All-Star game later this month.

Wichita Falls and Childress cancelled the Oil Bowl and Greenbelt Bowls this year.

I’m irritated as heck by schools saying you can’t participate in extracurricular activities while engaged in online learning when that is the only option being offered. I mean, they ARE in school, getting grades and everything, right? So that excuse is gone.

The data show being inside is much worse than being outside, and that it takes prolonged contact (15 minutes or more) to catch it from an asymptomatic carrier. No one seems to have a clue as to whether It can be spread by fall activities such as cross country, volleyball, football, band, cheerleading, etc. So physical distance inside, dress in shifts or whatever, and let’s find out. :).

Heard the Archer County schools (Archer City, Holliday, and Windthorst) are starting classes August 17th. We are extending the class day an extra 10 minutes. Superintendent Lonnie Hise presented the extension because it will add 3.6 days or 1,770 minutes to the year. He said this should help prevent the school year from having to extend into the summer should the district have to close to clean due to a positive COVID-19 case. He added the school board can remove the extension for the next school year if they do not like the change.

“That would give us our two bad weather days, 3.6 days here and we’re already a day or two over anyways,” Hise said. “That would give us a little bit of leeway in here without having to extend into summer at the end of the school year and I don’t see a drawback to it.”

I wonder if schools close when the first school kid or teacher dies. It is going to happen somewhere. When it does, their pictures will be plastered almost 24/7 on CNN and other news networks.
