Yeah that was unexpected, Flatonia was the favorite to play in the regional final for a lot of people before the upset!

This is going to be a doozy of a series. I think whoever advances out of these two has to be the favorite to win the region.

Johnson City vs. Kenedy

Analysis:

Kenedy comes into this game off a 3 game upset over a favored Flatonia team. Even though they came in as underdogs in their series against talented Flatonia, I think the Lions were underrated as they were regional semi finalists last season and basically have that same team intact. The Lions have also gone 3 games in every round of their playoff run, so they know how to play under pressure and seem to thrive under it. The Eagles on the other hand are coming off a 3 game win over Burton which should have really not been as close as it was. While J.C. hit the ball incredibly well last round, they have not been fundamentally sound on a consistent basis when fielding the ball and will need to clean that up or else the Lions will make them pay. Keys for the Eagles to take this series will be to continue the high level of pitching, minimize unnecessary errors, and most important of all not let Kenedy hang around as they have a knack for winning close games. I don't believe Kenedy's pitching is as good overall as J.C.'s, but they do have an advantage when it comes to depth, so it will be interesting to see if that plays a factor. If anyone wins in two games it will probably be J.C., but if it goes three games the advantage leans toward Kenedy. This will be a slugfest that can go either way, but I am going with the Eagles edging out the Lions in the end.

Watched it on NFHS, Peterson is the real deal! I just can't see him losing this season, you don't see the velocity and control that he brings too often at this level. Game two should be another good one!

Yeah, Peterson is absolutely solid. Shiner has a solid pitching staff overall. Will be a good one for sure. Mumfords a good team too!

Yeah Mumfords other pitcher Castilleja is just as good their game one starter Castorena. It will be fun seeing Wenske and him dueling it out!
