Johnson City vs. Granger

Game 1- Thursday, May 4th, Lago Vista, 6:00 PM
Game 2- Friday, May 5th, Lago Vista, 5:00 PM
Game 3- If necessary follows game 2

Analysis:

This will be a tougher matchup than most would assume against a 4 seed. Granger has started to get hot and found ways to beat Holland and Thrall in must win games to sneak into playoffs. The Lions also come in battle tested from a district that I think is definitely tougher top to bottom than D28. I believe the deciding factor in this series will be the pitching J.C. will bring. I could be wrong, but I don't think Granger has seen that level of pitching this season and it will show. Johnson City absolutely can not underestimate this dangerous Lion team though or else they could very well get upset. That being said, I think the Eagles take this series in closer than expected games.

Prediction:

J.C. in 2 Games

Harper vs. Rosebud-Lott

Game 1- Friday, May 5th, Dripping Springs, 7:00 PM
Game 2- Saturday, May 6th, Dripping Springs, 3:00 PM
Game 3- If necessary follows game 2

Analysis:

This should be a fun matchup. I think Harper has the talent to pull this one off, but Rosebud-Lott will be extremely tough. The Cougars have played a much tougher schedule and have competed well with top 2A teams(5-5 Tie against Mumford & 4-2 Loss to Valley Mills). That being said, if Harper brings their A game and doesn't allow themselves to get rattled, I think they have the pitching and bats to take this series. This is definitely a toss up that could easily go either way.

Prediction:

Harper in 3 close games

Mason vs. Holland

One Game: Thursday, May 4th, Dripping Springs, 6:00 PM

Analysis:

Another great first round matchup that could go either way. Mason has underachieved so far, but has slowly begun to build momentum in the bottom half of the season. Holland on the other hand has been dominant the majority of the season, but has fallen into a slump the last few games. On paper Holland is definitely the favorite as they were on the verge of a DC, but this Mason team is no joke and can't be counted out. The Punchers are a seasoned group that has made it to at least the 3rd round of playoffs the last two seasons, so they will not be rattled. All these factors lead me to the conclusion that this is a prime setup for a Mason upset. I think this game will be very close and decided by a single run, with Mason's aggressive play ultimately giving them the win.

Prediction:

Mason with the upset

Sonora vs. Thorndale

Game 1- Thursday, May 4th, Llano, 4:30 PM
Game 2- Follows Game 1
Game 3- If necessary May 6th, Fredericksburg, 2:00 PM

Analysis:

As much as I am rooting for D28, this is a mismatch. Thorndale is firing on all cylinders after winning their district and will be a tough matchup for anyone in the playoffs. There is a massive drop off after the top 3 teams in D28 and it will show in this series(Sonora was run-ruled in all their games against the top 3 teams). The Bulldogs should take this series with relative ease and move on to the next round.

Prediction:

Thorndale in 2 Games
