Refugio ran two alternates. They ran 42.3 on Friday with their regular team just FYI. Unfortunately, the coach blunder in the 4X 200 relay probably cost Refugio a shot at the title. I think Timpson will win it all this year. Refugio will have to have everything go perfectly to win it now. It is fun to watch Campbell run the 200 but without him running on the 800 meter relay also cost Refugio a shot. Those are a big 6-10 points extra then him winning the 200.

I actually hate to see this. Was rooting for Refugio to win the track title this season! Hope them boys can still pull it off!

It really is crazy how close this will be. Looking at time and jumps here is how it could play out. Relays cancel each other out, Refugio wins the sprint and second in the mile while Timpson gets second in the sprint and 1st in the 800 meter relay. Timpson wins the long jump and triple jump to cancel out Campbell in the 100 and 200. That leaves Timpson with Bussey in the 100 and long jump, 2 sprinters in the 200. Meanwhile Refugio has 3 athletes left in the 400, 300 IH, and a discus thrower. 4 competitors to 3. However, looking at times Refugio has a realistic shot at winning the 400 and a 3rd in the 300 IH for at least 16 points. Meanwhile Timpson could finish 2nd in the long jump or 3rd if Brooks helps out. It would be great if Brooks could win, then you have Bussey with a slower time in the 100 but I wouldn't count that guy out for at least 3rd and the 200 guys come in with the 4th and 5th best times. You have Timpson and they could get an extra 6 in the 100 and long jump and possibly 6 in the 200. That would add an additional 18 to Refugio's 16. However, you have Refugio's discus thrower who is 3 feet away from 5th and getting 2 points to tie. Also Bussey could get worse then 3rd in the 100 and that would cost them some points. It can be wild and really come down to the last race for Refugio.

Absolutely, takes Refugio from practically a lock to going to need some things go in their favor. Of course the key to relays, not to jinx anyone, is getting the stick around the track.

I only got 1 horse in the race besides hurdles and shotput and discus. Any thoughts on the mile relay?

Mart, Centerville could possibly play spoiler to Refugio State Championship hopes. Assume for the most those schools are front runners in most track meets and have no one pulling them along.

For that matter that could happen in most events, so while past results are somewhat a decent measuring stick, what can’t be measured is the heart of these champion athletes.
