Man, I’m on a camping run to some state parks I’ve never been to up here. Holy crap it’s hot! And where’s the water!? I thought there was some rain up here! I’m just south of Quanah, Tx at Copper Breaks State Park!

We’re still on our quest to see every state park. And we’re in the middle of a good run. Hit Dinosaur Valley State Park, now at Copper Breaks State Park, then headed to Abilene State Park, then back home. These parks out here take awhile to get to lol.

Yessir, we passed many we still have to see. It’s gonna take us multiple runs across the state. But that’s part of the fun. Saw a lot of Texas I’ve never seen before! Only heard about from places like this message board. Went to Quanah, drove through Tolar, Stamford, Anson, Olney, Lipan, Perrin, Seymour and Hawley. Just the 2A towns that I saw for sure. There were many others along the way. But I had been through those before. Saw a lot of little 6man towns too.

We’re at Abilene State Park until Saturday, then the long cruise home. So there might be a few more I haven’t driven through. Been a fun trip.

We don’t have many state parks. Across from Abilene is camp Tonkawa spent a lot of summers out there and at the pool at the state park. Is it still open? Copper Breaks can be rough in the summer that little lake fluctuates year to year. When it has water hiking and swimming in some rough country was fun for the boys. Possum Kingdom is my favorite not sure if it’s considered same area. I grew up in the state parks around Lake Ray Roberts uncle was a warden. There are still some great places that are ran well, some just don’t get the funding.

Abilene State Parks pool is closed this season for renovations. Didn’t know that when I booked lol. So we haven’t had any luck for water at all on this trip. Have had to find pools in the nearby towns to cool off. But we got a lot of cool hikes in during the morning hours.
