Looking forward to 2023

Post by Razorback »

So what do you think 2023 will look like? What teams were loaded with all young players and look to be a force next year?

One I can think of is Refugio. They seem like they will be stacked the next couple of years.

Refugio will have a lot coming back. There are some concerns about them that will be interesting to see how they work out. The main one is the QB position. Refugio had pretty poor play from the QB position the last 2 or 3 ball games. Basically if there was no pressure and he could just stand there and throw, he did well. But any pressure really bothered him, and did all this year and last year. Refugio has a Freshman that will battle for the position, and may win it. He throws the ball well, and is a dynamic runner, which puts more pressure on a defense. The other question is does Refugio go back to the spread, or do they stay in the same offense they were in this year. They have many athletic players that would do well in the spread, and they would be fun to watch. Timpson has a lot of players coming back next year and they could very easily make it to the state championship.
It’s a pretty good day when you’re on your way and you like where you’re going, and you’ve got what you want and you want what you’ve got and you’re wise enough to know it.

Yeah, Timpson does return a bunch. They come to mind as well. I fully expect a rematch between Refugio and Timpson in the semis, and that game could go either way. Shiner will be down a bit. They’ll still be a solid playoff team and could see 2 to 4 rounds in the playoffs. I think they will still take 2nd in D15. Ganado lost their stud QB to graduation, so I don’t see them being quite as good as they were before either. Mason is the only other team in region 4 that I believe could beat Shiner besides Refugio next season. That’s why I put 2 to 4 rounds. Flatonia will lose a big senior class as well.

I expect another Refugio/Shiner match up in the regional finals again next year.

Shiner is another team that just reloads. I think there is something in the water there!

I am hoping to see Mason go far next year. It seems that even the years they are not predicted to do well they pull something out of the hat.

I hope to see more teams from Region 1 making noise next year.

Honestly I like teams from all over the state and would like to see everyone do well and there be battles every week and less blowouts.

But returns studs Hill and Wagoner off the top of my head. Albany will be in the thick of it next year as always!
