Big Country Small Schools

Post by Razorback »

Man the Big country area is well represented in the small school playoffs.
1A
Westbrook vs. Abbott
Loraine vs. Benjamin

2A
Albany vs. Mart
Hawley vs. Refugio

Kinda cool each game has a Big Country school playing. Benjamin is right on the edge of the area so that game could be counted as both from the Big Country.

I lived in two of the towns playing. I lived in Loraine from second grade to 6th grade except for one summer and half of my 5th grade year I lived in Albany. Man I loved living in Albany. Loraine on the other hand was not that great. One of those towns where if one side of your family is not well liked and you move there you get treated different and there is not much you can do about it. Albany had some of the nicest people I ever met.

I'm hoping the big country will have a similar year next season. Would be cool to go back to back championships but I'm one to never count my chickens before they hatch. Everyone in our district and region is going to want to get a piece of Albany more so than usual now. Hopefully they will be ready for that and we can make another run

In my opinion, Timpson will be an absolute terror for everyone else in D1 next year. They’re my preseason pick to win it all after losing only 3 starters to graduation this season. And of course returning their superstar at QB and that stud WR. That team is gonna be on a mission. After losing 3 straight semifinals.

That is likely to be the case. A program that close to the big stage has to be getting hungry. A number of other teams in d1 and d2 had young teams that went far. Should be several teams on a mission this coming year.

Refugio will be a terror as well. They lose just a few more pieces. But not many more then Timpson lol.

HUH?!!! More than usual? Albany has lost like only 1 district game in the last 20 years. During that same time Albany has dominated the Region, you want to advance better figure out a way to beat Albany. Albany always has a target on their back.

Well yeah. District wise its been the Albany show for that time line but region wise windthorst has had our number more than a few times along with their district teams. Muenster has got us and some other teams that are now 2a d1. We went to state 4 times in the past 20 years but have only won it once so far. I think windthorst has been one of the most if not the most successful program in region 2 during that time. I just know in Albany when we know we are going be playing windthorst we know we are in for a ball game. I guess what I really mean is now it's not just the region thats going to be after us but now we are on the radar of teams outside of it. Same as windthorst

so i went and looked it up and this is what i came back with.

2022 state winner
2021
2018
2015 state runner up
2014 State runner up
2013
2009 State Runner up
2008

all those dates we won the region. so i guess in the past decade we have been pretty dominate but before 2008 we were really only winning 2 games running into windthorst, munday or electra and getting hammered. 2002 we lost to petrolia in the first round and in 2001 we didnt even make the playoffs and posted a 3-7 record. so ten years or so yea we are have been doing pretty good but 20 years and we defiantly had some humble years
