Shiner vs. Refugio, 7 p.m. Friday at San Marcos’ Rattler Stadium

Oh this is gonna be a good one. What do you guys and gals think?

This one could go either way. It has the makings of a potential classic. Refugio won the district meeting. But this is the playoffs and at a neutral site. And it’s very hard to beat a good team twice! I am a bit biased of course. But I think Shiner will take this one. They have the more senior team. They’ve drastically improved upon the basics as well. I know many have argued that Shiner just looked good against lesser opponents. But I saw vast improvement in their fundamentals. As far as blocking and tackling. They were much more sloppy before. Refugio has a ton of young talent. Shiner has some talent too. And they have Dalton Brooks! Could go either way. But give me Shiner by 14.

I am thinking Shiner might win but naturally Refugio will be in it with Herring coaching. I wouldn't be surpised to see either team win as it should be very close.

I think it will be closer than the first game this year, but I’m still picking Refugio.

Shiner lost a heartbreaker… just can’t win the close ones over Refugio… Dalton Brooks wasn’t 100% in the 2nd half. Tweaked his knee in the 2nd quarter. Had maybe 5 carrie’s after the half. Can’t win with your best player banged up. Shiner still had a chance though. Had Refugio pinned on 4th and 12 at their own 14 with 4 minutes left and a 21-19 lead. Then gave up an 86 yard TD pass…. Those things can’t happen. Again, they can’t win the close games…. I hope one day they can. Just hard as a Shiner fan watching them lose another heartbreaker to Refugio. 27-21 Refugio final…

It was a tough, hard hitting, ball game. Brooks was not himself, but that caused problems for Refugio. When you gear up to stop one player and something happens to them, you’re not expecting that, so it kinda causes problems. This game could have gone either way, it just happened to go Refugio’s way. Refugio made a lot of mistakes, and didn’t play their best game. They just made enough plays to win. Shiner, great season although I know it didn’t end how you guys wanted it to. Much respect for you guys. Refugio, on to the semis, GATA.

This can't hurt as bad as the 2019 loss but I feel for Shiner. They had the game but didn't contain Refugio's speed and it cost them. Great season Shiner. Good luck Refugio.
