2A Region 4 2022

Post by Comanchealumni06 »

I’m continuing my region 4 ambassador duties. I’ll be posting games of note this season across both D1 and D2.

D1 Preview: I expect you’ll see the usual names at the top of this region once again. Shiner and Refugio will get to play each other a lot sooner this season then last. They’re district foes now. And if I’m gonna make a prediction, they’ll most likely be facing each other twice this season. Of course Mason could have something to say about that as well. The landscape in D1 has changed some again. Some teams formally placed in region 3 the last alignment will be back in region 4 with us. Thorndale, Holland, Hearne and Thrall. Welcome back to region 4! They are joined in district with Flatonia, Schulenburg and Weimar to round out D13. Out west, Junction comes back up to D1 from D2. And Stockdale drops from 3AD2 down to 2AD1. So welcome back Junction and welcome to 2A Stockdale! They’re joined by Mason, Johnson City and Harper to round out D14. They are a small district and the travel across SA to Stockdale will be rough for this district as well. Just south of I-10, Skidmore-Tynan has dropped down from 3AD2, so welcome down to 2A! Shiner and Ganado shift down to join Refugio, Three Rivers, Kenedy and Bloomington to create a new D15. This might be a very competitive district this year. With Shiner and Refugio of course having a classic battle! I wouldn’t sleep on Ganado either! And then Lions in Kenedy have made some strides lately! And lastly, down in the Rio Grande Valley. Premont, Freer slides down, Riviera-Kaufer, La Villa moves back to D1, Santa Maria and Ben Bolt make up D16.

D2 Preview: Falls City and Burton will make noise again as usual. However, now Chilton joins the party in region 3. Add Bremond as well and these 4 will most likely be the teams to talk about this season! No doubt Burton will be the early season favorite this season. And much will be talked about surrounding them. But Definitely don’t count any of these teams out! Bremond and Chilton as stated above will be joined by Granger, Bartlett, Iola and Milano to make D13. Granger was solid last season too, so the addition of Chilton and Bremond presence should make for a highly competitive district! Burton and Falls City will now find themselves playing sooner rather then later! They are now district opponents. They are joined by Louise, Runge, Snook, Yorktown and Somerville to round out a 7 team D14. Out West, Brackettville, Sabinal and Center Point drop down from D1 to join D’Hanis, La Pryor, Charlotte and Rocksprings to form D15. This district looks to be a highly competitive one. And I can’t say I see a clear favorite. Finally down south we welcome Lasara to D2. They’ll be joined by Pettus, Woodsboro, Agua Dulce, Bruni and Benevides to round out D16. Woodsboro and Bruni would be in my sights as the teams to beat here. Here’s to an excellent year!

Thanks for the preview. I definitely agree with you on D1. I think Refugio and Shiner will play again in the Regioal Championship. I think the other regions have some very good teams this year, and may give the region 4 champions are run for their money on the way to the State Championship.
It’s a pretty good day when you’re on your way and you like where you’re going, and you’ve got what you want and you want what you’ve got and you’re wise enough to know it.

I agree, this year will be a lot more even across the board for 2AD1. Could come down to anyone of about 6 or 7 schools that could win it all.

Region 4 Game of the Week:

Week 1:

D1- #9 Coleman @ Mason - This one will draw a lot of attention. It will give everyone a first look at what Coleman brings back to the fold this year. And gives us a view as to where Mason, a perennial power in the region stands.

D2- Bosqueville @ #9 Chilton - This one just seems like the best matchup from what I’ve seen out of the games down in this region. What does Chilton have coming back? And Bosqueville usually brings a decent team to the fold. Could be a good one!

Other notable games:

#5 Burton @ Holland
#8 Falls City @ Three Rivers
#1 Shiner @ Hallettsville
#3 Refugio @ Hitchcock
Flatonia @ Shiner St. Paul (TAPPS)

Region 4 Week 2 games of the week:

This week is a little tougher to pick. I’m not being biased by my selection. I promise lol. There just aren’t that many games that seem super interesting or like their going to be close. I’ll mention some honorable mentions below.

D1R4:

#3 Shiner vs Vanderbilt Industrial (3AD1) - This will likely be a hard fought game for Shiner. They’re fresh off a tough loss to Hallettsville. Industrial is fresh off a big win over area rival Yoakum! Will Shiner right the ship this week? We will see.

D2R4: #5 Burton @ Hearne - This one is intriguing. It involves 2 very athletic teams. How good is Hearne this year? How good is Burton? I think this game will give us a better insight.

Notable games :

#6 Poth (3AD2) @ Falls City - How good is Poth? How much have the Beavers fallen? Hmmn

#8 Refugio @ CC London (3AD1) How about Refugio? Where do they stand? London has been a perennial playoff presence in 3AD1 the last few years. After a big loss, do they bounce back? Very close to my option for game of the week.

#8 Chilton @ Italy - Chilton playing up, Italy has been solid in the past. Good matchup for them.

Hallettsville (3AD1) @ Flatonia - How close are the Bulldogs to giving Shiner and Refugio a game? This might give us some insight.

Results from week 2

Shiner 47 Industrial 0 - Shiner stunned even myself with the progress they showed after one week! Industrial isn’t exactly the greatest team out there by any means. But they’re decent. Hallettsville is slightly better. But I wouldn’t say that much better.

Burton 7 Hearne 0 - I didn’t expect this to be such a low scoring game. These defenses showed out here. Solid win by Burton though. They seem to be one of the favorites in region 4 this year.

Notable game results:

Poth 41 Falls City 0 - The Beavers haven’t scored a point in 2 consecutive weeks. I know Poth was a very quality opponent. But I must say. The Beavers have seemed to have fallen off this season. They still have a lot of time to improve though.

Refugio 39 London 6 - The Bobcats bounced back nicely. And seemed very balanced in their new offense. Lots of players getting on the stat sheet and the board. Similar to Shiners night. They may be figuring it out.

Chilton 28 Italy 27 - Boy was this ever a good matchup. Maybe this could have also been the game of the week in D2. Chilton vs Burton later on is looking to be a classic!

Hallettsville 34 Flatonia 14 - The Bulldogs hung with the Brahmas close for the first half. But just ran out of steam in the second half. Hallettsville was without their dual threat QB since he fractured his ankle against Shiner. So I’m not sold the Bulldogs will be much of a threat towards the usual hierarchy of region 4.

Region 4 GOTW Week 3:

D1: #7 Refugio @ 3AD1 #8 Edna - This one is intriguing. Edna is a very solid team. And I honestly don’t expect Refugio to win this one. But i do think it could be a classic! Easily makes my game of the week.

D2: Holland @ Granger - This one feels like it could be a great matchup. Granger lost a tight one to Thorndale last week in a questionable setting. Gives us a good idea where Granger might sit in D2. Also gives an idea how Holland stacks up against Thorndale in D1 district 13

Notable games:

3AD2 #6 Poth @ #4 Shiner - I know Shiner is #6 on here. Just using the DC rankings since it makes it easy to find info. This one might show a lot about Shiner. If they win this one. Which I believe they can. What will it mean? Can Shiner really contend for a title again?

East Bernard @ Ganado - The Brahmas s as re historically a great team! But they seem a bit down this season. They did make a little come back against Hitchcock last week though! Still lost but made it interesting! My eyes are really on this game. Will really give an idea as to how serious Ganado is this season!

Don’t know if anyones reading these lol. Guess I’ll continue to post em.

Week 4 GOTW Region 4:

D1: 4AD2 Bishop @ #6 Refugio - Honestly I think Refugio will win this one by a decent margin. But there is a lack of marquee matchups this week. And we’ll, 2A vs 4A is always interesting.

D2: Hearne @ #7 Chilton - This could be a measuring stick game for Chilton. Burton won a defensive battle against Hearne 7-0. This could tell us if Chilton is close to competing with Burton for the region or not.

Games of note:

Falls City @ Flatonia - might be a really good game! And it brings back an old school rivalry as these teams used to be district foes for many years.

Holland @ #10 Bremond - Bremond has been lighting teams up! Can Holland hang?

At this point in the season, starting district play for some districts, I think the district races are starting to shape up, a little. Flatonia and Thorndale look like the top two teams in District 13. I expect Mason and Johnson City to battle it out in District 14. In the most competitive district in Region 4 Division 1, District 15, it’s no surprise that two teams are undefeated. What is surprising is those teams are Ganado and Three Rivers. I think it will come down to those two, plus Shiner and Refugio, for the 4 playoff teams, with Kenedy being the dark horse for a playoff spot. Premont looks to be the front runner in District 16. I still expect Shiner and Refugio to battle it out for the region championship, again. But Ganado and/or Mason could end up there.
It’s a pretty good day when you’re on your way and you like where you’re going, and you’ve got what you want and you want what you’ve got and you’re wise enough to know it.
