Not Coleman. The 1st string Bluecats and the 1st string Albany Lions both had 2 sets of offense and they both scored once each. Albany made a lot less mistakes on offense and defense and had 4 big pass plays compared to Coleman's 1 big pass play and 2 big runs. Overall I'd say Albany gained more yards, had fewer penalties, and looked a lot more prepared to start their season. Coleman has some work to do if they want to come out of region 2. Or maybe Albany really is just that good this year. Won't know more until Hawley and Albany play in a few weeks.

Big mismatch between Hico and Comanche.

1rst string : Comanche 3TDs to 0 Hico TD.
2nd string : Hico 1TD ( Defensive ) - Comanche 1 TD.

JV: Hico vs Granbury Freshman "B"
Hico 6TDs ( 4 off and 2 def. ) - Granbury 0

Next up: Rio Vista @ Hico Thursday.

Shiner scrimmage Tidehaven and the Score was 3 to 3 .The first team was 2 to 2 and Shiner fumbled the ball once in the 10 yard line .I was really pleased with the offensive they moved the ball at will and Peterson at QB we could throw whenever we needed to.On the defensive side we will really miss big Doug in the middle and will need figure out who will be the one linebacker that we are missing. We did look good in the secondary but must improve at the defensive tackle spots to be a real good defensive team this season. The good thing is it was the first scrimmage and we will get better .

Jv scrimmage vs Clyde
Both offenses moved the ball but no score. Hawley Jv did throw 4 interceptions (one called back on pass interference)
Varsity scrimmage vs Clyde
Hawley scored 1 time in scripted portion, Clyde did not score, but did throw 2 interceptions. They played a 10 minute live quarter, both teams scored 1 each, Hawley did have some big play brought back because of penalties.

Hamlin, Santo, Winters tri- scrimmage. Hamlin JV looks good mostly freshman. Santo looks strong and has several backs that will all do work this year I’m sure. They are gonna be a threat in the air as well with that running game opening that up. Winters looks young again but they have some play makers. Hamlin has matured and now have some experience compared to last year when we only had 3 starters return. Just an observation but we didn’t change a thing on either side of the ball, same defense and play calling. Only way is up.

Hearing my DeLeon Bearcats are definitely looking better after a strong offseason but will still be playing a lot of young kids in key spots and the SR/JR classes are very thin. Would not be surprised to see a few FR add some depth as the season goes along. Heard they got the best of the scrimmage vs Hubbard, but opponent was very down. Expect JV to be fairly stout unless the Varsity has to rob the roster.

Mason got 2nd place VS Llano. Highlight of game to me was toughness of the O-line propably smallest Mason has had in last 50 yrs.

Coleman @ Eastland

Colemans JV won thier scrimmage 2 TDs to 1 TD over Eastlands big JV squad.

Varsity 1s vs 1s was a tie with 1 score each. In the 1 live quarter Coleman scored on thier first possession then Eastland threw a pick to Braxton Smith. Coleman drove down to about midfield with only a few minutes left. A QB scramble scored a TD, but was called back by a long contested odd flag. Not sure about the details and doesn't even matter in a scrimmage but it was very unusual. Coleman turned it over on downs and 2 plays later time expired. Highlight was the bluecats secondary tackled very well and even though we gave up a 50+ yard TD pass our corner was thier in coverage, he just never found the ball. Should be a great season for Coleman. Have some early test @Mason and @Llano then a battle vs Tolar for the district crown. Could this be the year Coleman finally makes it to the regional finals for the first time in school history? Can't wait to find out.

We are a paper tiger...no way are we the 7th best team in the state. Last week I was hoping our performance was due to Paradise being 3X as large as us, but last night against Lindsay showed it wasn't an aberration. We looked better against Lindsay in the controlled portion of the scrimmage and probably "won" that portion, but in the live half, it was all Lindsay. Guess the silver lining in that is maybe the kids can be coached up to execute properly when the coaches are not on the field. If not we might not make the playoffs.
