Who the heck is the “county health officer” in a county with 40,000 people? Pretty sure no MD is going to take that job on a county salary, so who is? Does a county health officer have the power to close schools and end sports? Abbott seemed to think he did, and people questioned that.
Seems like the schools abdicated to a petty tyrant. Anyone from Ben Bolt on here? What happened?

Well probably see it mostly in schools that don’t think highly of football. Or don’t take it as serious. Just my opinion. No disrespect to Ben Bolt, but I can’t imagine them having a great season this year. I’m sure those decisions are weighed on those possibilities

750 cases out of 40k population? So a little less then 2% infection rate. And that’s what drove county health officials to this decision. Just super interesting

If we have a county health officer, I’m pretty sure it’s our team doctor, because we only have one MD and one NP. We’ve got 4000 people in the county and have had at least 300 test/assumed positive. No talk about canceling school or sports here.

There’s been over 300 cases in Lavaca county for sure. It’s bound to be more by now. No talk like that here either.

Interestingly...if you go to the Jim Wells County website there is not county health officer listed in their directory. Go figure!
