I’ll take Shiner for the district and the region. Don’t forget them Comanches are coming off back to back state finals losses. And return their main core. I like to think they’re starting to get very hungry! Watching these girls win these softball titles is probably only adding to their hunger as well! The big question for the Comanches will of course be at QB. I think just about everyone is wondering that! Williams is off in Cuero now. But there’s alot of talent at the skills positions for the Comanches. So I have faith that these coaches will know who is ready to take the snaps!

Just poking fun as I know Shiner is strong year and year out, but they were in Division II with DIvision I numbers!!!

This is true, no doubt. They have a long way to go once again. But they have the talent and depth to get over the hump! And as I said, those things combined with hunger can get you there.

Oh yes, the old hunger argument. None of these other teams that have busted their tails or had success in the past can come anywhere close to the hunger that Shiner does. Gimme a break. Everyone that has a solid program knows what it takes to win at a high level. Hunger means jack squat. Talent wins ballgames along with a little break here or there. You think the 2023 Shiner team that had a losing record wasn't hungry or all of a sudden, the town and coaching staff didn't know how to run a successful program? Look at Refugio this year, they have had a unbelieve track record but unfortunately, they will be young and not have the Jimmy and Joes to win at a high level they are accustomed to. Doesn't mean that the kids don't have "hunger" same with kids from Kenedy, Rosebud, Thorndale, etc...

I was on the 2004 Shiner Comanche team that bounced back from losing in 2003 in the state final to Windthorst. Overall, we were more athletic and “talented” as you want to put it in 2003. But we were “hungry” for the title in 2004. We were gritty, and on a mission that year! I know what it’s like to want it so badly that you just find a way to make it happen! We were “Hungry” that year! And no one was getting in our way! Sure there were some lucky breaks, all championship teams catch a few. With talent, focus and yes “hunger”! Championships can absolutely be won!

Case in point, Muenster was by far the hungrier team last year! And overall more talented too. It was just plain to see to me. Shiner didn’t play their best at all! And I know the head coach Boedeker, “who coached me as well I might add”. Has been reminding them of it! He will have them boys ready this season.

That is a great question! They definitely got it going on up that way!
