The level headed Burg people said last year was their best shot for a while, and while I largely agree with that statement, this rivalry always brings surprises.

Burg lost a lot off last years team (particularly offensive production) and their JV and 8th grade (including St Rose athletes) leave a lot to be desired from simply a physicality aspect. Despite sneaking into 3A, they dont really have a load of great boys, outside of maybe the Freshman class. Girls on the other hand look to be better in coming years.

Weimar is starting their infusion of giant classes of boys (from 9th to 3rd grade) after having 12-18 a class the last several years, you’re now talking about 34 from the current 8th grade class. The 9th is around 20. The 7th is in the mid 20s, the 6th is 45! The seniors this year will graduate 44 total.

More importantly, to me, a lot of boys in those classes, had Dads and Moms who either won team state championships or individual ones at Weimar or other schools.

Burg has beef, but not a ton of speed in their lower classifications and JH. Weimar has a good blend of both.

I do find it interesting that Weimar has received a few Burg transfers recently, particularly in JH. I can’t say it’s for athletic reasons (because I don’t know the parents well), but most of the kids are athletic.

If Burg is going to beat Weimar anytime soon, I think it has to be this year. That’s what they said last year, but Weimar will have youth in spades across the secondary, receiving corps and my own personal prediction is a Freshman will win the QB position before district play starts.

Weimar’s athleticism will be increased, but the learning curve will be steep in key positions.

IMO, Weimar should challenge Kenedy for 3rd in district in 2026. 2027-2029 is when it *should* start getting fun for Weimar fans.
