On the Brackettville vs Gordon game, are they playing one half of each format?

That matchup was making my head hurt until I remembered it was neutral site. i was like, "Why in the hell are they playing each other?"

Hey Bud, from what we have heard, they (Gordon), have two 11-Man games on their football schedule, and this Brackettville game is the second one this year. They played Thorndale three weeks ago and played by 11-Man rules for all four quarters. Gordon beat Thorndale - 54 to 21. Go Longhorns !!!

Thanks for the info. I had found where Gordon had scheduled the game to deliberately try to get more reps for their players, as opposed to 45 point ruling everyone. Just couldn't find the format. There was a game years back where the two opponents played one half of 6-man and one half of 11 man. Seems like that would also be fun a player and coach to learn those schemes for the week.

That’s gotta be tough for 6-man teams. What’s sad to me is, there’s a bunch of programs that could play 6-man and keep opting to play up. Some of these programs need to consider dropping down to give themselves better chances to compete. There’s other schools around them that could too. Which would expand 1A and allow them closer games.

Gordon is coached by Mike Reed who was at Throckmorton in 2011. In 2011 we couldn't find anyone to fill our schedule and neither could Throckmorton so we played the original 11-man/6-man hybrid game. We were in a rebuilding mode as we lost a bunch of seniors the year before. We "won" the 11 man portion 7-0 and they kicked our butts in the 6-man portion. We dropped the game in 2012 and picked up new program Brock, who kicked our butt!!!

We didn't learn any new schemes for 6 man. Throckmorton gave us their playbook and we used scouting play cards to call plays so the players would know what they were supposed to do. We literally did not snap the ball until there was no time left on the play clock, but still got our butts kicked. A few years back UIL explored a 1A 11 man football division but it did not pass.
