I do to. Specifically if our passing game is on. Of course we will need to limit turnovers and penalties of which we typically don't have problems. I think we'll be right there in a close game with as a good chance as them to win.

I was extremely impressed with your defense last night. Nobody had really been able to stop Joaquin’s running game all year . I thought we were moving the ball well in the 1st half but you bowed up when it mattered to prevent us from scoring on the drives and then shut it down completely in the second half. The strip fumble return was killer on what looked like a promising drive.

Without some of those early penalties and specifically the strip return it could have been a tight ballgame.

We did and honestly most of playoffs have struggled to connect on our passes. I think that might be a problem if we are going to win state. Gotta capitalize on our passing opportunities.

From what I am reading about Stamford, it should be a good game. I am gonna try to watch one of their previous games, if I can find one. I thought our teams from 2009-2011 should have won state. That team was amazing. We just lacked a passing attack back then, which would have made us very formidable against Mason. This year's team has a more balanced attack. It will be fun. I am excited about the opportunity that lies ahead.

It's hard for me to envision this game being a blowout either way. The only way that'll happen is if one team has multiple turnovers while the other team has none. Refugio, Ganado, and Stamford are the only teams in 2a1 that I feel have an elite offense, defense, and coaching staff based off the entire season. All the other top teams might be elite in 1 or 2 of those but maybe just above average in1 or 2. Saying all that to say this I have no idea how this game is going to go. Refugio actually scored twice against Ganado and after re watching the game had some big missed opportunities with wide open receivers in the endzone as well as Ganado with some drooped passes that would've moved the sticks. That was probably closer to a 21-14 or 24-21 game, but most felt they would both score more. I was correct in my prediction for Joaquin and Marlin it terms of it not being close. But after watching Stamford and Ganado play this will be close unless injuries/turnovers. I'm going with my preseason pick that whoever wins Refugio/Ganado will win state. this 2024 Ganado team has eerily similarities to 2011 Mason team. If you have time look it up.

That 2011 season was eerily similar to 2001 in the sense that we had a big drop at the TE position and stalled out multiple times in the redzone. I am referencing Ganado. Now Mason really wasn't challenged at all except their 7-0 win behind the legs of David Mora rb for Mason. We had Josh Labay but also Mason had scouted every Ganado game in person all season. They knew exactly when he'd get the carry as he was tipping when he'd get the carry based on his posture. They Mason had a signal for the run plays he was getting and they were right 100% of the plays. It's very important to be able to pass the ball and that is something we didn't do well from 1995-2017. The lack of passing game limited our runs in the playoffs those years imho.

I wrote articles for the Jackson County Herald Tribune while in college for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. We went 22-2 those 2 years.

Both teams have give up 155 total points for 10.3 points a game. Offensively Stamford is scoring 47.1 on the season and we are scoring 45.8 points per game. Ganado has a better passing game passing for over 50 total tds and Stamford has passed for mid 20s in tds. They have 4k rushing yards to our 2k plus. The rushing edge goes to them. I will say our run game specifically Smoke is really coming during the playoffs.

Now the first 3 games we didn't have Ullman on either side of the ball and he didn't play defense until district play. Logan Bures missed the 1st 4 games and he played both ways. That affected our points as we scored less points and gave up more without them. I think if we had been healthy those first 4 games, we would have averaged over 50 a game and given up closer to 7 points a game.

If our passing game is on we definitely can win by a couple tds. I am thinking Ganado by about 7 as both teams are very evenly matched in all 3 phases of the game as well as coaching.

GF1 that's some fine analysis. I agree 100% with your accessment. Your recollection of 2010-2011 is spot on. The only thing I would add is that our coach we had at that time froze up and choked, plain and simple. He did it against Goldthwaite before that as well. If we can pass more effectively against Stamford, I believe that will help us. If not, we will just pound it out. It's just great to be in this game and in this position.

It is great to be in this position and with the 8th graders coming up I think if Ervin stays we will be again. I actually will be doing color commentary for 92.5 out of Bay City with Roland Martin. He is doing the play by play for Ganado Stamford. He has been doing the East Bernard games out of El Campo 1390 KULP for many years. That is why I have been digging into the numbers the last few days. We have 4 wrs with 500 to 800 plus yards. They have 2 wrs that match those statistics. They do have 2 rbs with over 1k yards and their qb with 800. We have Bures with over 1k and then Sablatura with 600 plus.

Back to 2011. Everyone I speak to from those 2010 and 2011 teams seems they don't care for ole Jimmy T. He really goofed up that 2011 season. I spoke with him on the track between 2010 and 2011 during the summer. He said we'd open it up. That turned out not to be true. He did beat us in 2001 semis but I think Garrison had a rb when Thompson was there that was about 5', 10" 200 ran a 4.5. Labay was about 6' 180 ran a 4.6 there is a difference.

In 2010 vs Goldthwaite in Buda, 4th and 11 he ran a sweep left!!! can't make that up. That ended the game. Could have been sweep pass but I am pretty sure it was a regular sweep.

You have to have players, coaches, and luck to get this far. Luckily we've had all 3 so far. I think staying healthy falls under luck.
