But I sure was glad we beat them the next year 28-0 by pounding the ground, one TD per each quarter. Sweet revenge!

I am hoping our defense will stay strong throughout the game, but specifically do what we did in the 2nd half with Joaquin. We will see.

I have been amazed at the comments from fans in Stamford's region on the chat part of Texas Football Friday app. Several have ragged on Region 4 and act like we are nothing. Look at who is always in the hunt, and it tells a story. Texas football is amazing state-wide. All regions have great teams. Personally, I believe Refugio, Shiner and Ganado can hold their own against any team in 2A. Also, don't forget Mason, Goldthwaite, Mart, Marlin, Bremond, and others as well. Central and South regions are always tough. It's like they are a million miles apart and no one seems to remember anything but their own. If you look at things through a football lens, and not a "fan-boy" lens, I think you can be more objective. But maybe I am wrong! :confusion-shrug: :eusa-dance:

I mean… as far as 2AD1 goes, here are the previous champions.

2023 - Timpson region 3
2022 - Hawley region 2
2021 - Shiner region 4
2020 - Shiner region 4
2019 - Refugio region 4
2018 - Mason region 4
2017 - Mart region 2
2016 - Refugio region 4
2015 - Canadian region 1
2014 - Canadian region 1

This only dates back to the renaming of the classification from 1A to 2A. Idk about you, but I see a whole lot of region 4 champions up there… but I guess folks just want to act like anything before the last 2 years didn’t happen…

Keep in mind that most ?fans? only pay attention when:
1. Their kid is involved in the team - player, cheerleader, band, pep squad, etc. Therefore the "fan" base will change about every four years.
2. Their team is in the mix, or has had a really good season.
Those of us who follow high school sports consistently year in and year out recognize that there is a balance in the state and good/great teams come from everywhere and sometimes rely on one or two special individuals. We know about the Marts, Refugios, Albanys, Canadians, Stamfords, Altos, Timpsons, etc. and we also know that there is no such thing as an unbeatable team.
Those "fans" that are on a short bandwagon can be somewhat unrealistic at times, but as one of the consistent follwers, I applaud them for being proud of their teams' accomplishments, but I won't get involved in those conversations when they mention that ANY team doesn't belong in the fight or doesn't have a chance.

Best of luck to EVERYONE involved in this weeks contests.
I'll be over here rooting for EACH of them to play well, play fair, be safe, and take home a trophy for their school.

I have listened to the Stamford games after Albany was beat,I admit to knowing very little about Ganado,Stamford are very dominant on both sides of ball, plus they have coach Hutchinson back,I think Ganado will have to play their top game to win, good luck to both teams

I do know Ganado, and I too can say that Stamford will have to play their top game to win as well. Both of these teams are excellent on offense, defense, and special teams. They both have great skill players at QB, RB, and receiver, and both have swarming defenses. I see them as very similar. It is gonna be a great game, but mistakes could be a key factor in the outcome. May the best team on Thursday win it.
