That Hamlin game was odd to me! I didn't know what to expect. I just knew y'all were good and wasn't sure what the caliber was of our team. Then the 2nd play of the game your QB goes 60 for a TD and I was thinking it was going to be a long night!!! But we settled in and played better defense. There were times when it seemed like we trying to keep it vanilla or go the complete opposite and put stuff on film knowing most teams in the playoffs would request that game from Hamlin. Sepeda was an absolute beast making plays on defense from sideline to sideline, but it also seemed like we tried to get cute. 4th and 1 and we are try to run a QB throwback, don't think we ran that play the rest of the season! Think we had four trips inside your 20 and few carries for our RB when in the playoffs he was our ride and die guy!!!Piper wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:56 pm Man 2020 we got you guys at Windthorst 14-0 in a good hard fought game early in the season. Gave Albany a huge 42-6 home loss not sure that’s ever happened. We lost our RB 1st round but still had a hoss back there. Rolled into the 3rd round against Muenster looking like we had it figured out. Proceed to set a season high turnover number. Decided to stray from our ground game and air it out despite averaging 7+ yards a carry. Like watching a train derail even tho the tracks were perfect! To this day I can’t wrap my mind around not pounding it out and making it back to y’all. And just give our boys a chance. Would have loved to meet up again kids wanted Mart so bad that year but it wasn’t meant to be. Our boys and folks were dang thrilled for Windthorst.

Was at the Thunder snow game vs Munday in Seymour. Actually spent the night in Seymour because the snow was too bad to risk driving back home to West Texas. Also attended the Munday game at Memorial Stadium in which WHS lost 17-16. The game in Childress vs S-E was one of the coldest I've ever sat through as a fan, not in raw temp, but it was sleeting/ raining the whole game and my jeans actually froze to the bleachers from the rain/ bodyheat/ and then slightly freezing temps. It was my wife's first real "football game in crappy weather" and she was kind of hooked after that.
During the Wellington playoff game at Vernon, I was looking at the officiating crew before the game and the umpire was a big dude...hey wait a minute... that's one of my co-workers from Abilene.LOL That game was a slugfest with the infamous lonesome man play, or whatever it was called. Definitely unforgettable though.
Going old school, Fall of 80, back when only the District Champ advanced and Windthorst had moved up into 2A( now 3A) because of one abnormally large class. We were undefeated in District, but in Week 10, had to face Boyd and Freshman Billy Joe Tolliver at Trojan Field in a pouring ass rainstorm. Boyd won 7-0 and a very, very good team sat home in the playoffs. That same season, WHS upset Holliday, also in Windthorst when the Eagles inexplicably dropped back to pass in their own endzone late in the game while leading 7-6. Windthorst got the safety, and the win, 8-7 against a heavily favored Holliday squad. IIRC, the following season at Holliday, the Eagles won alike 82-6. It was terrible. LOL. but that 8-7 upset was incredible.

I have 0-58 in my history in ‘81! The person that supplied me with the Windthorst history from the beginning of our history showed a 7-7 tie in ‘80, but LoneStar Football Bet shows the 8-7 so I’ll have to correct!!!
