Re: Alto ineligible for football playoffs
Food for thought, if Alto turns in the correct number does the cutoff then become 165 instead of 164.5? This would have put Junction, Kerens, and West Sabine into Division II instead of DI.

I’ve got a good buddy who’s a coach and knows that area very very well. And from his explanation to me. Students can transfer for any reason out of Kenedy without question. I remember him using a term for this which the school fell under. Can’t remember the term now. And I don’t even know if they still fall under this. But Falls City and Karnes City get alot of transfers from the Kenedy school district.Windthorstfan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 10:47 pmJust cause a school has open transfers, doesn’t mean a kid can just transfer and be eligible. Especially now that the season has started a kid will be hard pressed to get a transfer approved by the DEC. Pretty sure all transfers have to submit a PAPF, Previous Athletic Participation Form, to their new school which are then reviewed by the DEC before being deemed eligible.Comanchealumni06 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 10:25 pmOh I know. But there are school districts out there that have open transfers for any reason. Been killing Kenedy for years!Windthorstfan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 12:09 pm
Think that would fall under transferring for athletic purposes, which means sitting out of varsity competition for a year.

Re: Alto ineligible for football playoffs
I got my answer! Karnes County is the reason. The county is under an open enrollment. And kids can go anywhere at least in between school years without question as a result of this. Not sure about during the middle of the year. I would imagine not during the middle of the school year for athletic purposes. But idk.

Re: Alto ineligible for football playoffs
I looked it up. Because of the county clause. The districts will not rule against transfers for athletic purposes as long as it’s in Karnes County. But they do have to enforce the enrollment rule. Which states an athlete must be enrolled by the 6th day of the school year to be eligible immediately. If not enrolled by the 6th day they have to wait out 15 day period in which they will be eligible on the 15th day before becoming eligible.
I remember Goliad got a big transfer mid season several years ago. It was a RB from Aransas Pass, can’t remember his name now. The districts ruled that it wasn’t for athletic purposes and he only had to sit out 15 days before he could play for Goliad. It was right before district play began too. People raised a lot of hell over it lol. I think they were in district with Hallettsville and Yoakum back then. So I heard all about it lol

I know Bishop is open enrollment. They moved to 4A this year, which is funny, because the population of Bishop is slightly down from past years. There are not many kids actually from Bishop on the athletic teams, both boys and girls.
It’s a pretty good day when you’re on your way and you like where you’re going, and you’ve got what you want and you want what you’ve got and you’re wise enough to know it.

Under the current alignment with Alto in Div II there are 105 schools in Div I and 102 in Div II. Move the 4 schools and there would be 103 in each division.

I’m assuming they get a few extra from the south end of Corpus and maybe KingsvilleProfessorJones wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 1:11 pm I know Bishop is open enrollment.
