I think Johnson City has potential to make a deep run this season if they can put the pieces together. Pitching wise J.C. will be strong as they return their junior ace Jacobs (8-1/1.43 ERA/88 SO) and their sophomore pitcher Slawinski who is committed to Baylor (both lefties), but they will need to develop more depth due to inexperience behind them. They did lose some key guys in their batting lineup due to graduation, but they return a solid core so it shouldn't be too much of a drop off. J.C. got off to a rough start in their opener losing 20-5 to Blanco, but they were without their top two pitchers who didn't play due to basketball playoffs. In the Lago Vista tournament, the Eagles beat Bowie JV 10-0 and the Austin Waves 14-0. Jacobs and Slawinski went for 23 Ks and one hit through 8 innings in both games combined. Tonight J.C. plays Randolph and then head to the Llano tournament on Thursday.

Shiner is 3-2 to start the season. I know some of these games they either were without many of their best players including both ace pitchers from last season due to basketball playoffs. They lost to Hallettsville to start off the season but I’m not sure on the score. And they then played in a tournament and went 3-1.

10-3 over Lexington
4-0 over Smithville
0-2 loss to Columbus
16-0 over Wallis Brazos.

They have a tournament in Hallettsville this weekend hosted by Sacred Heart. They play 2 games tomorrow back to back. At 10 they get Logos Prep and at 12 Brazos Christian.

J.C. goes 1-3 in the Llano tournament. They lost to 4A Jarrell 7-1, beat 4A Lampasas 1-0, lost to 4A Burnet 11-3, and lost to TMI Episcopal 10-0. Pitching behind our two aces was rough. For the week our top two guys Jacobs and Slawinksi combined to go for 31 Ks and 0 earned runs, but the bullpen behind them struggled mightly and went for only 9 ks and allowed 20 earned runs in three games combined. Fielding was an issue as well this week with 17 errors in 5 games and their lineup also struggled hitting the ball. J.C. has a ton to work on and clean up if they want to make noise in the playoffs, but the potential to be a great team is still there. Thankfully the season is still young and there is still a time to correct some of these issues. The Eagles are now 4-4 on the season with all losses coming against higher classifications. J.C. has their district opener against Sonora on Tuesday.

Shiner won the championship game in the Sacred Heart Tournament with a 10-0 win over 3A Tidehaven. Ryan Peterson (Sr) threw a no hitter in the win tonight. Shiner finishes the tourney 3-0 while giving up no runs and 2 no hitters by 2 different pitchers! Drew Wenske (Sr.) threw one on Thursday against Sugarland Logo Prep. Peterson was named All-Tournament and Wenske was named tournament MVP. Excellent showing by the Comanches this past weekend!

J.C. has a brutal 6 game week ahead of them. Tonight they open district against Sonora, Thursday they head to the Burnet Tournament to face 3A Llano and 4A Navarro, Friday they play their second district game against Sonora, and then finally Saturday they play 5A San Antonio Pieper and 4A Burnet to finish up the tournament. The Eagle bullpen is definitely going to get their reps in this week against some quality competition!
