Welcome! Good to see someone else here haha. Collinsville has looked impressive all season, I'm not sure how y'all are flying under the radar. I personally think region 2 is the toughest in the state top to bottom and y'all making the final definitely says a lot!

Region 4 Final: Johnson City vs. Shiner

Game 1- Thursday, June 1st, Marion, 7:00 PM
Game 2- Friday, June 2nd, Marion, 5:00 PM
Game 3- If necessary follows game 2

Analysis:

This is a rematch from the 2011 regional final which J.C. won and went on to win state. Like before the Eagles come into this game as major underdogs to the Comanches. Shiner was a state finalist last year and returned virtually everyone from that team. They have looked like the number one team all season and have been even better in the playoffs. The Comanches also have two of the best pitchers in 2A in Seniors Peterson and Wenske. Shiner is a buzzsaw that is tried and proven and out for a title this season. J.C. on the other hand has somewhat flown under the radar (other than my posts here), but has shown they belong by making it this far. The Eagles haven't cruised through the playoffs as smoothly as Shiner has, but have won convincingly under the pressure of facing elimination. The X-factor/s for J.C. this season has been their two lefty pitchers, Jacobs (12-0) .55 ERA 136 Ks and Slawinski (11-0) .42 ERA 156 Ks. They both throw a lot harder than what you typically see at the small school level and have impressive control (21 walks combined in 129 IP). However, even though they have put up video game numbers all season, I'm not sure they have faced a lineup like what Shiner will bring. The experienced Comanches have seen some of the best pitching 2A has to offer and have been successful against it, which definitely puts them at an advantage in this matchup. In order to win this series the Eagles will need to play error free defense behind their pitchers and find a way to score runs, which is easier said than done against this level of pitching. The Comanches won't make errors or give up walks, so putting the ball in play will absolutely be vital for the Eagles. I think if J.C. somehow manages to win, it will be low scoring pitcher duels as I don't see them putting up many runs against Shiner. That being said, I am a homer so I am going with J.C. in an upset!

Prediction:

J.C. advances (Homer Pick)

Shiner is definitely on a mission after back to back heart breaking losses in the state tournament. They will definitely be an extremely tough out. I’m not sure a team wants to win more than these boys. Reaching that pinnacle only to come up short on 2 occasions. But at this stage. It’s anyone’s game. Gotta play mistake free ball. Hope both teams have injury free games. Go Shiner! Go Comanches! Get back to state!

Yeah they definitely have a team of destiny feel to them, hopefully we give y'all a good series. I'm going to be out of town so I'm going to miss it unfortunately, but I will definitely be watching on NFHS. Are you going to be there?

Unfortunately I won’t be able to either. I’ll be on shift during the games. I’m gonna try and catch them on NFHS as well.

Shiner beats J.C. 5-2 in game one. Jacobs had 10 Ks, but a 2 run HR by Shiner broke the game open. Slawinski will get the start tomorrow. Even if J.C. wins game 2, they won't have the pitching to win game 3. Shiner is as advertised!
