Region 1

W4 New Home (29-2) VS W8 Anson (25-1-1)
Game 1: Friday May 27 at 12PM at LCU
Game 2: Saturday May 28 at Abilene Christian
Game 3: Follows if needed

New Home has looked crazy good all season and they really punctuated that with how they completely dominated defending state champ New Deal in just two games last week. This team might have the best bats in 2A along with some impressive power. Anson on the other hand has been equally as dominant all season imo. They eliminated Hamilton and their impressive ace Weaver in a one game playoff last week. In my opinion New Home and Anson have been the two most dominant teams in region one this season. I think whoever comes out on top in this matchup wins the region. Anson will need their pitching to bring their A-game and play good error free defense if they want to advance. This series should go three games, but I think New Home's bats will be too much for Anson.

Prediction: New Home

W2 Clarendon (21-6) VS R8 Albany (19-4)
Game 1: Thursday May 26 at 7pm at LCU
Game 2: Saturday May 28 at 2pm at LCU
Game 3: Follows if needed

This is looking like it will be another good matchup. Albany has cruised through playoffs so far and has not had a series go three games yet. Clarendon on the opposite end, has had both of their series in the last two rounds go three games. I believe that Albany has played a tougher schedule overall and also is coming out of stronger district. They played Anson tough and and could of very well have won that district. However, in the playoffs Clarendon has proven they can play under the pressure of elimination which is something Albany hasn't had to deal with yet. I think the Lions take this series, because they are more battle tested, but it will take three games.

Prediction: Albany

Region 2

W11 Collinsville (25-6) VS R14 Valley Mills (25-2-2)
1 Game: Saturday May 28 at 7PM at Weatherford College

Collinsville is a very young team that has improved exponentially from last year. They have looked good all season and knocked out a strong Windthorst team last week in three games. This week they face a tough and experienced Valley Mills team that has been cruising through the playoffs. The Eagles have played a pretty tough schedule against some very good teams and have only lost twice (both close losses to Bosqueville). As good as Collinsville has been, I think once you get to this point in the playoffs, experience really becomes a factor and Valley Mills is clearly the more seasoned team. The Eagles take this one, but watch out for Collinsville next year!

Prediction: Valley Mills

W10 Muenster (26-11) VS W14 Bosqueville (26-3)
Game 1: Wednesday May 25 at 7PM at Weatherford HS
Game 2: Thursday May 26 at 7PM at Weatherford HS
Game 3: If needed, Saturday May 28 at 5PM at Weatherford

Bosqueville from a talent standpoint is one of, if not the most talented team in 2A imo and boy have they played like it this season. The Bulldogs have played a tough schedule and have wins against several very good teams. A matter of fact the only 2A team that has really tested them this season is Valley Mills (who is still playing) and they swept them in district. Muenster is also battle tested and has some good pitching depth plus a few guys that can really hit the long ball. It will be interesting to see how these two respond to their first true test in the playoffs. This one could definitely go three games and should be a doozy. Tough to pick a winner for this one, but I think Bosqueville's talent combined with their experience gets them to the next round.

Prediction: Bosqueville

Region 3

R17 James Bowie (19-12) VS W23 Garrison (27-7-1)
Game 1: Friday May 27 at 4:30 at Marshall HS
Game 2: Following
Game 3: Saturday May 28 at 2PM at Marshall HS

James Bowie upset a good Beckville team last week and once again comes into this one as a big underdog. They face the Bulldogs who brought back a ton from a state finalist team last year. Garrison has played as well as you would expect so far this season and have coasted through the first few rounds with relative ease. While the Pirates have shown they can pull off an upset, I think Garrison will be too much and should take this series in two games.

Prediction: Garrison

F17 Rivercrest (21-9) VS W21 Centerville (26-4)
Game 1: Wednesday May 25 at 6PM at Mike Carter, Tyler
Game 2: Thursday, May 26 at 6PM at Mike Carter, Tyler
Game 3: If needed, Saturday May 28 at 1PM at Mike Carter, Tyler

Rivercrest, who only returned 3 starters from last season has been the Cinderella of the 2A playoffs as they are the last remaining fourth place team. Their seeding is somewhat deceiving though considering the top 4 teams in their district were neck and neck and anyone one of them could have won the district crown. They face a Centerville team that has been great all season. The Tigers knocked out a very good Alto team in two games last week. While coming out of a tough district has aided Rivercrest, lack of experience will also have an impact in this one. Rivercrest has overachieved all season and is capable of pulling off the upset, but I think Centerville is just a better overall team that should win this matchup.

Prediction: Centerville

Region 4

W28 Shiner (29-0) VS W31 Kenedy (24-3)
Game 1: Wednesday May 25 at 7PM at Victoria Riverside
Game 2: Thursday May 26 at 5PM at Victoria Riverside
Game 3: Follows if needed

Kenedy got past a tough Mason team last week in three games. It was a series they could of very well lost, but they made plays at key moments and had just enough pitching to knock the scrappy Punchers out. This week the Lions will face a whole nother beast in Shiner who beat a tough Thorndale team in two games. The Comanche's dominant pitching once again was on display last week as they held the Bulldogs to just one run in both games combined. Going into this game Kenedy has a small advantage in that they have faced and had success against a dominant pitcher this season in Refugio's Kelley. It will be interesting to see how their bats match up against Shiner's two stud pitchers. Kenedy will need to win game one if they want to have a chance in this one imo, because there is a decent drop off with their pitching behind their ace Reyna. If the Lions don't win game one, the Comanche's take this series in two games due to pitching depth. I think Shiner continues doing what they have been doing all season and advances to the region final.

Prediction: Shiner

W26 Mumford (19-7) VS R31 Refugio (16-5)
1 Game: Saturday May 28 at 730 at LaGrange

This Refugio team seems to be peaking at the right time. The Bobcats beat a good J.C. team in a pitching duel last week. They faced a very good pitcher in Sophomore McCray Jacobs of the Eagles and were held to only 2 hits, yet they still found a way to make the plays to win. Refugio's Jordan Kelley pitched another gem last week and shut down a talented Eagle lineup. This team seems to have that "it" factor and has been clutch in the playoffs so far. They also have athletes all over the field and are incredibly dangerous on the base paths (Won 2A State Track Meet). Mumford proved me wrong last week by beating a hot Flatonia team in three games. They are a lot better than I gave them credit for and I believe they will push Refugio. However, I don't think they have seen a pitcher like Kelley this season and with this being a one game playoff Refugio definitely has the advantage. Mumford will need to to jump on Kelley before he settles down and be able to handle the pressure the Bobcats bring on the base paths if they are going to want to win this one. That being said, I think Refugio continues their clutch play and moves on to the region final.

Prediction: Refugio

Bosqueville defeated Muenster 11-1 in 6 innings. I noticed Muenster saved their #1 and #2 in hopes of getting to a Game 3.

Centerville defeated Rivercrest 5-2 in Game 1.

Bosqueville beats Muenster 13-1 in 5 innings. Put up a 9 spot in the 1st inning. Looking at GameChanger Muenster could have gotten out on the inning having given 1 run possibly none, but errors absolutely crushed them taking the drama out of the game. 9 runs, 5 hits, 2 Walks, 3 errors.

Mumford beats Refugio 3-1. Kelley had a no hitter going into the 6th, but two walks, a triple, and a passed ball doomed the Bobcats in that inning. Mumford's pitcher was very impressive once he got settled down, it will be interesting to see how he matches up against Shiner. Next week will be fun!
