Texas State Parks - Abilene

Post by Razorback »

This one is in our backyard so I have been here a few times.

This is a really nice park. It is nestled in a valley behind the dam of Lake Abilene. It has a small pond, a large lake, walking trails, geocaching, a pool and activities throughout the year. Most of the camping spots are shaded and there are plenty of wildlife to keep you company. The only reason Garner beats out this park is the river. This park has a Lake you can go to but you have to literally leave the park and drive a couple of miles to get to the lake entrance. the little pond is great for little ones to fish for perch or chase bugs.

The only bad thing about this park is if the area gets too much rain it can make the lake go over the spillway and the creek runs right through the park. When it gets close to going over they close the park. It is rare, but it has happened.

I’ll have to keep this one in mind, I’ll add a few more to this forum as well. Hope others do too from different areas of our state.
