Nice! I've seen some real battles on that old grass field when John Kassen was coach. We had to stand along the cable when the stands filled up! I think I still prefer grass!!

Contract say August 8th on the field (Hellas) & .. Bleachers & pressbox ( Southern Bleachers out of Graham). However we ran into so soil stabilization issues & that has been pushed back another 5 days. The concession & bathroom should be ready around the 14th also. That should work just about right for us going into second week of two a days

All right Swammy, did ya'll strike oil over there in the VV school district? Not many 2a schools with a turf field like that. Windthorst has one, perhaps at least partially financed by all the wind turbines in the area. There are some wind turbines in Cooke County around Muenster. Perhaps they'll be next. Beautiful stadium in honor of a great coach. Good luck to the Eagles.

we are very very fortunate
we have a very supportive community
We have an excellent Superintendent who knows finances!! we were actually able to drop our M&O tax rate this year by 2 cents
no bond money was required

again we are very fortunate.. We have have had enough kids move here in the last 6 months because of this field , facilities, or program in general to pay for it. We prolly had 15 athletes move here in the last 6 months that will more than pay for this field at 10k per year in funding.

No wind turbines in Windthorst ISD. It's my understanding we are a poor school district when it comes to taxation. Cotton knows more about it than I do.

Found my post on the old board from Jan of 2010

The school board has been saving the ISD's pennies for a while. This all started because they wanted to build to track for our students. The bulk of the expense incurred is for the track. The football field is losing it's crest so there would have been expense to make improvements. It cost about twice as much to put the turf field down than to do the earth moving needed. The turf is guaranteed for 8 years and typically lasts 12 years before needing replaced. They are putting in a lighting system that will make the track available to the community 24/7 unless of course there are school activities taking place. In my opinion the best part of this is taxes will not be raised, no bonds to be issued. The fund that is funding this project is comprised of 70% State money and 30% tax money. This project will still leave a healthy balance in the fund since the school board has been frugal and diligent in their spending.

I think there are 3 or 4 turbines in our district. The bulk of them are in Archer and Midway school districts. That shows you how small WISD is.

Swammy - where are you guys at on enrollment? Seems like you guys are more similar to a 3A school in many ways than most 2A schools.

Stadium's gonna look great.

Very nice looking field, stands & all. Like the black end zones.
Kinda jealous. Always wished we would have got turf while my sons were playing.
