Mid-Term Update - who looks like playoff contenders in your district?

Postby PurplePunch » Sat Sep 30, 2017 2:10 pm

We're at the halfway point of the regular season - seems like a good time to take measure of where district teams are. I've noticed some with big dreams have struggled, while others look to be rounding into shape. This is when some teams begin to take off, some can get bored, and some regress, for various reasons. In your district, who is trending toward being a playoff team, and what do they need to work on?

District 14, D1 has 3 undefeated teams - Harper and Mason are 5-0, Sabinal 4-0. Junction is 1-4, Brackett 2-3 with one win a forfeit by Leakey (not enough players).
Statistically, based on schedules played (no judgement on SOS) Points For PF/avg, Points against PA/avg.
Harper - PF 243/48.6, PA 51/10.2
Mason - PF 236/47.8, PA 26/5.2
Sabinal - PF 83/20.8, PA 26/6.5 (4 games)
Junction- PF 115/23, PA 151/30.2
Brackett - PF 91/22.8, PA 134/33.5 (4 games)
The top two teams meet in 3 weeks at Harper.

Sad to hear that about Leakey. I travel down there several times a year. I guess not many young people anymore, its really becoming a retirement area.

Leakey Texas heart of the 3 twisted sisters ranch roads 335, 336, and 337.

Yep - they (and Menard) are down to 75-80 kids in high school. The demise of agriculture in favor of hunting is killing off the small towns, unless they can diversify.
We travel to Sabinal and Bracettville each season 2 or 3 times. Usually leave early, stop and eat somewhere on the route - nice picnic stops along there - and enjoy the scenery along those roads. One hangs above a river for many miles, following the gorge. Magnificent! We go the most scenic routes but come back the straightest- scary, winding roads with lots of critters at night.

McCamey
Ozona
Anthony
Christoval
Eldorado

This district is actually gonna be very interesting. Hopefully one of these teams can win bi district, cuz last year the teams in district 4 shut them down lol.

District 2 Div 1

ABERNATHY 4-0 / 0-0
FLOYDADA 2-3 / 0-0
HALE CENTER 5-0 / 0-0
NEW DEAL 5-0 / 0-0
OLTON 3-2 / 0-0
SUNDOWN 4-0 / 0-0

This is probably the strongest the disctrict has been for a decade or more, they have really uppped themselves all of them, the obvious choices have to be Abernathy and New Deal, but I wouldnt count out either Sundown or Hale Center all are undefeated, even Olton could get a 4th spot, only team I dont think has a chance will be Floydada, mainly because of the strength of the rest of the district.

Div. 1, Reg. 2, Dist. 8
1. Mart: Keep doing what they're doing.

2. Italy: Haven't got much info on either Italy or Riesel except they're beating the teams they're expected to beat, and have had trouble with a few tough teams, that I think was also expected.

3. Riesel: See Italy's comments.

4. Axtell/Bosqueville "toss-up" at this time: Both teams are dealing with more inexperience/lack of depth than has been typical in the past years. Stay more consistent from game to game (probably will get better as the kids mature), hope the young guys keep improving and step up their game each week. Seniors need to be good leaders more than ever this year.
