2017 Dist 6 Div I (Bells, Blue Ridge, Celeste, Collinsville, Tom Bean, Trenton, Valley View)

Postby cowboyz » Tue Aug 22, 2017 8:55 am

Football is in the air in these parts and it smells good. Collinsville lost a ton of starters and SR's last year that will be hard to replace, but the buzz around the program under new Coach Dale West and his Slot-T is very positive. Don't have detailed reports on the scrimmage with Callisburg but the general consensus was it went "well" for whatever that means. I think there were 38 out for football this year which is pretty good for us. We'll find out alot between now and the start of district, but with young players and a new system I expect the team to improve significantly throughout the season. It's a bit early to make predictions, but Dist 6 mates probably shouldn't be sleeping with Pirates about.

I THINK Collinsville IS THE BIGGEST UNKNOWN. If they hang onto the ball & can get their first down totals each game in the double digits then they have a chance to control a lot of ball games. Your right no one better be sleeping on the pirates this year in D6. Collinsville did throw the ball more than you would expect them to in the slot T against Callisburg.

Coach coming from Howe knows how to run the slot T and not many defenses see that anymore. Howe ran it very well. They could beat teams eating up the clock, without throwing a pass!! Good luck to the Pirates.

How did that go?

I won't be able to see either of our scrimmages, very excited to see the new offensive and defensive schemes next week. I have a good feeling about this season, hope reality doesn't come crashing in... =))

Hard to tell as im not sure how strong Cumby is.. Last year They seemed a a little stronger & they did finish 9 & 3 loosing second round to iola.

Clint Epperson had around 275 yds rushing on 5 or 6 carries. We scored 5 times I think, and I think our defenseheld them to 1 first down.

coach did not play Epperson in the live qtr on offense as he wanted our other two running back to get work along with off line.

It get real this coming Friday!!! Muenster will hit us in the mouth right off the bat.. Hopefully we will respond !!

Well it's two weeks into the season, Collinsville, Bells, and Celeste are still undefeated. Returning champion Valley View is 1-1 with a loss to a tough Muenster team. Blue Ridge split their games, and Trenton and Tom Bean are still looking for their first win.

Who makes it to the playoffs and what order?

Valley View has its hands full with Leonard Tigers. Two players are D1 prospects according to their coaching staff. The Hart kid at QB , and their TE/DE are talented kids. Hopefully we can keep it close & when it in the 4th.

Nothing is a given.. Im guilty of it too. Ive gone on record as already giving Muenster the D2 title!. Mart is a favorite for region2.. Crawford right behind that. Two years ago Tolar beat Mart & Valley View had Tolar the following week. I went to the Tolar /Mart game at Waxahachie & came away from that game we could play with or beat either one of them. Tolar did defeat us but I still believe we were every bit their equal. We have a showdown with an explosive Bells team this Friday & if we sleep on these guys we will get beat.

However come playoff & VV has taken care of business if anyone sleeps on us they will get beat! I think we have the chance to be very good!

A 3 way tie scenario if Bells beats Celeste and Celeste beats Valley View, or Celeste would win outright with wins over VV and Bells.

I think Celeste is starting to hit on all cylinders, this week Collinsville will need to bring their A game to stay with them.

Yes VV beat Bells I was just saying this is the biggest game of the week for a district titles imo Collinsville, Celeste & Tom Bean are undefeated as is Valley View.. However I think Collinsville vs Celeste has more implications for district title than Blue Ridge Tom Bean. If Tom Bean beats BR then & we beat Trenton then there still 3 way ticket. After losing to TB last year I don't take anything for granted !

I think Epperson is over 1100 yds

two big games up this week. Valley View is at Collinsville. Celeste vs Bells.. This district is still very much up in the air!! This district really doesn't get much respect , but I think it will be much more competitive come playoff time than most people think!

I will guarantee that the 1st and 2nd place teams in district will advance. The 2nd Round is a beast with the D7 and D8 teams staring at you (Mart, DeLeon, Crawford, Goldthwaite, Bosqueville) I doubt there will be 3 teams left combined from D5 and D6 after the 2nd round.

Collinsville has 11 listed on the roster. Our offensive skill positions and LB/DB's seem to have lots of underclassmen contributing. The SR class is lineman heavy though, don't know enough to predict how well we can replace them.

VV and Collinsville will be good next year. Some of the old rivalries will be renewed. Too bad we can't get Muenster to join us. I believe they'll be staying in Div II.

Sounds like an exciting one. Collinsville-Seymour was a good game to watch as well. So much better feeling when you come out on top in these.

What was impressive to me about Collinsville's win was after Seymour scored on three of their first four drives, the Panthers ran 25 plays for 35 yards.

Congrats to Windthorst and Collinsville. Is the new coach at Collinsville running a slot T or wing T that he brought from Howe? A 4th place team winning in the first round is pretty impressive.

Stats from WF Times Record News shows they rushed 56 times for 276 yards while they were 3-6-1 passing for 57 yards.

I think everyone in district 6 are very happy about the results.

Great job Eagles, Blue Devils, and Pirates, but hey you got those state records.

The Valley View Eagles had been in this position before. Last season, they opened their playoff campaign with a matchup against Chico. They won that game 68-20.

So after the Eagles demolished Chico for the second straight year on Thursday at Bobcat Stadium in Krum 69-19, they were handed the bi-district trophy.

But last season, Valley View fell in the next round, so this time around, the Eagles aren’t getting lost in the glow of the gold football trophy.

“I think the main thing is kids always love a trophy, and that’s good, but I didn’t want to make it something great because they’ve gotten this trophy the last three years in a row and I don’t want them to think it’s good enough,” Valley View head coach Alan Kassen said. “That’s not what we want for these kids.”

The Eagles (10-1) posted 407 yards of offense, led by 179 rushing yards from Clint Epperson, who finished with four touchdowns with quarterback Brady Jackson going 8 of 13 for 109 yards passing along with 67 yards rushing for a total of four touchdowns.

Kassen was impressed with the balance the Eagles displayed and said the passing game was preparation for the tougher teams they might face down the playoff road.

“I think our ability to throw the ball certainly put Chico back and opened up our running game immensely,” Kassen said. “Our ability to have a two-minute, 80-yard drive mostly out of passes is something we’re really doing for the future, not for the game tonight.”

Epperson didn’t just do damage in the running game, he also opened the game’s scoring with a dynamic play on defense — a 92-yard interception returned for a touchdown 3:14 into the game — a first in his career for Epperson.

“It was fun,” Epperson said. “It felt good. I noticed the last time they ran the play, they threw it behind me right after I ran past the guy and this time I read it and slowed down. I grabbed it and ran. Once I scored, everybody got hyped. Everybody was alive again. It kind of triggered everybody. I think it went a lot better this time around. Our linemen got better blocks and it just seemed like a smoother game. Our offense did pretty well.”

That play sparked the team after Chico (4-7) had a solid start to the game and Kassen said if the Eagles are going to hang against better teams in the future, they need a better start to the game.

“For us, we have to start better if we are going to be successful,” Kassen said. “We’re going to have to get tougher. The bottom line is we’ve played teams and made mistakes that didn’t hurt us, but those are going to be game changers against better teams. We can’t just rely on our athletic ability. We have to rely on our ability to be smarter football players.”

Still, the play by Epperson was a product of some research and scouting before Thursday’s tilt.

“We had been working on some of Chico’s passes this week, so we knew kind of what to expect,” Kassen said. “When they got in certain formations, we were pretty sure what they were about to throw. You could tell the kids really studied their scouting report.”

With 1:52 left in the first quarter, Jackson found Cale Kassen for the 18-yard touchdown to put Valley View up 14-0.

Just 26 second into the second quarter, the Eagles padded their lead to 20-0 when Epperson took a 58-yard run in for a touchdown.

Chico scored less than a minute later on a 62-yard run by Nico Starnes, but that would be all the scoring it would do in the first half.

Epperson’s 6-yard touchdown with 9:10 to go in the second quarter improved the Eagles’ lead to 27-7 and Jackson added a 6-yard touchdown run of his own to move the score to 34-7 with 7:35 left to go in the first half.

Jackson then broke loose for a 51-yard touchdown with 5:09 to go to make it 41-7 and then found Zackery Mitchell for the 9-yard touchdown to give the Eagles the 48-7 advantage with 1:11 left in the half.

Valley View football
The Eagles weren’t done scoring as Epperson added his second pick-6 of the game to send Valley View into the half up 55-7. Epperson finished the game with three interceptions.

Taylor Doughty added an interception of his own and Kyler Lindsey paced the defense with a team-high five tackles, including two for a loss and one sack.

“I thought Kyler Lindsey stepped up,” Kassen said. “Every week he does really good things at middle linebacker. He’s kind of the brains of the operation out there. He sees things differently than everybody else. It’s going to be hard to replace him next year, because he’s such an intelligent football player.”

I'm hoping next week at this time we're talking about a VV / Collinsville rematch.

I am pulling for a Valley View/Collinsville rematch as well! Swammy, I do not know how my day will go tomorrow, but I do know that I will be in Fort Worth for a big part it. If I am still there tomorrow evening, I may head down to Burleson and help you pull for the Eagles.
