Shocking statement. I hear Mason had some quit. How many are still 'out' in Refugio?

I've just heard rumors about how many players are still gone and how many may not be back this year, so I hate to put out some numbers that are not reliable. I would rather hear from someone who is closer to the Refugio program than I am.
It's a pretty good day when you're on your way and you like where you're going. And you've got what you want and you want what you've got and you're wise enough to know it.

Mason High School has a garage sale and other activities Saturday, with proceeds to kids at Refugio. The theme is something like "Rivals on the field, teammates off the field". Pretty much our whole town prays for all those affected, but by name the small schools in the coastal bend.

MASON 47, COMFORT 6
Jake Cockerham rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries to lead a Mason rushing attack that churned out 304 yards.
Quarterback Otto Wofford was 13 of 16 passing for 150 yards and two TDs to efficiently direct the Punchers through the air.
Mason's defense allowed a 29-yard rushing TD late in the third quarter. The Punchers have given up only 13 points through the season's first three games.
Mason (3-0) will host Iraan next week.

Jarrett Jackson led the Broncos in rushing and receiving. He had 113 rushing yards and two TDs on 15 carries. He had eight catches for 118 yards and two TDs.

Week 4 - September 22
#8 Iraan Braves at #3 Mason Punchers
3-0 Harper Longhorns @ 3-0 Center Point Pirates
2-0 Sabinal Yellowjackets @ 1-2 La Pryor Bulldogs
0-3 Goldthwaite Eagles @ 1-2 Junction Eagles
1-2 D'Hanis Cowboys @ 1-2 Brackett Tigers.

I'll take Punchers, Longhorns, Yellowjackets, Goldy Eagles, and Tigers to win. The matchup of Eagles will be an interesting one, with both teams fighting to get things headed in the right direction, which also describes Brackett. The undefeated district teams will be on missions to stay that way.

Mason has been playing good football. The rest of this district not so much. Harper's record is deceiving, and they've lost their starting QB for the year with a freshman taking over. 2 of the 3 opponents Mason has played so far are 0-3 as of now. And Hawley will be without Stokes. If Iraan doesn't give Mason a test this week(which I don't think they will), then they won't see a quality opponent until the 12th game of the year. No fault of Mason's in this situation. But there is an extreme drop off from last year's strength of schedule to this year's. I would expect a run of blowouts for the Punchers coming.

Hmmmm. I agree with 4Gata's comments. I don't think Iraan will test Mason, and I don't think anyone else will test them until they play Refugio in the regional finals. Mason is good, and that's a compliment.

First sentence MAY have been a compliment. Heres another example of his ENTIRE statement.

"Your girlfriend (Mason)looked pretty good recently. Her friends, not so much. Miss Harper looks awesome until she turns around and smiles with that missing front tooth. A couple of her friends(GW, JC) are used up and still huntin a husband. And Miss Hawley wouldnt be worth anyones time without 9her money. Miss Iraan has potential but from wrong side of the tracks. I guess ur gf's friends make her look better than she actually is. They are really ugly.U need to go south to see the real women, but they are probably too good for u.
Like i said, typical. Ur pretty good BUT....
COMPLIMENT, i dont think so!!!

Mason 58 - Iraan 7
Harper 50 - Center Point 19
Sabinal 14 - LaPryor 7
Goldthwaite 32 - Junction 12
D'Hanis 35 - Brackett 14

Punchers obliterated Braves in the DCTF Game of the Week. Greg Tepper picked Iraan,,,
Harper continued to terrorize the area. Sabinal continues its win streak. Congrats to these undefeated teams four weeks in.

Plus we all know it very few teams have chance to win state. Abernathy and Stratford and maybe post in region 1, Mart and Crawford and maybe Deleon in region 2, Centerville and San Augustine in region 3, Refugio and Mason and maybe Shiner in region 4. Thats it. And now subtract all the maybe teams too.

This might be Refugios year to have all the injuries. Refugio receiver care flighted after being hurt in game. 2 huge bomb passes to him in win over Goliad plus i beleive he is also a CB.

No! Those guys have had enough misfortune. Prayers for the young man who was injured, and continued prayers for his teammates.
We are having another fund raiser this weekend for Refugio. We've had them for the other small schools in the coastal bend, and for greater Houston, but the blood we've spilled with the Bobcats makes their plight particularly disturbing.

Yes point is Refugio has been unfortunate this year. Its a shame the hurt bobcat is very valuable to them. No one want s bad for these young kids. Plus im sure Mason would prefer to play a healthy Refugio team. But instead of just prayers i see you also have action and the people of these hurt areas appreciate all that you do!!!

Junction 1-3 v Ballinger
Brackett 1-3 @ Leakey
Sabinal 3-0 v Center Point 3-1
Harper 4-0 v D'Hanis
Mason 4-0 v Hawley 3-1

Junction and Ballinger both coming off their third losses - Bearcats over Eagles
Brackett at Leakey, which lost to Menard. Tigers need to win this one.
Yellowjackets with the three game win streak against the Pirates, who dropped their first game. Good matchup - Yellowjackets?
Harper extends their reign of terror further south.
Mason plays a Bearcat team that was highly rated but lost their super QB to injury early on. They are 2-1 since losing Quay Stokes, who helps tutor and support his replacement. Expect a great Hawley effort, but the Punchers are on a mission.
What are your predictions?

Mason seems to be a beast this year. Defensive power well for that said offensively too. Coach must really took to heart last year Refugio was just stronger because these boys are strong and fast now. Will be a hard out this year. I originally said mart over mason. Now i think mason over mart. Jmo

The kids made a vow to not get pushed around again, and they stuck to it. Nineteen seniors on the team, and the three losses last year was one more than they had experienced since 7th grade. They have and do provide very positive leadership on the field, in the weight room, in school, and around town. Such good kids they make your heart swell, but fierce when the lights come on.
Honestly, a lot of the stuff they work on in practice doesn't get used because games get out of hand so early. The first rotation has been out in the second quarter most games, and we've got some absolute beasts that are barely playing any defense because they are so disruptive.
This was a very good schedule, and last year we were challenged by it, losing two games. The traditionally tough teams like Goldthwaite, Comfort, Ballinger are a little down, Iraan lost too many key players, Hawley lost their 4 year starter at QB, but we expect a good contest with them. Just seems that circumstances and injuries of opponents this year, along with our defense, have resulted in lesser challenges than expected this year. I hate that, because this team responds well to strong challenges, and they need to play more than 1.5-2.5 quarters. But, that's a really first-class problem to have.
A water moccasin defender and running back returns from a broken arm in two weeks. That will further complicate the rotations. We only have 3 sophs on varsity, and the JV Purple is undefeated, but one or two of the sophs may have to move down to get some PT. Like I said, first world problems, for sure.

Harper 14 - D'Hanis 7
Sabinal 34 - Center Point 0
Junction 23 - Ballinger 28
Brackett 2 - Leaky 0 (forfeit - not enough players)

Ouch! Not a good week for the district. Mason upheld their end with a 47-0 thrashing of Ballinger that could have been much worse. Up 35-0 with 1:36 in the first half, Punchers kicked a 33 yard field goal on 1st down, and later kicked one from 41 on fourth and inches. Lots of minutes for the youngsters in this game.
Brackett beat Center Point a week after getting a forfeit from Leakey, running their record to 3-2.
Sabinal gave Poteet a run for the money before losing 18-6. Poteet is a 4A Divion 2 school, and the Yellowjacks played them close.
Otherwise...yikes! Did not see undefeated Harper falling to 2-win LaPryor, or Junction getting pummeled by 1-win Crane. Next week the Punchers are open, Harper plays Sabinal and Junction squares off with Bracettville to begin to establish district order.

BRACKETTVILLE 26 VS CENTER POINT 12
HARPER 12 @ LAPRYOR 22
JUNCTION 21 @ CRANE 63
MASON 47 @ BALLINGER 0
SABINAL 6 VS POTEET 18

Sabinal at Bracketville continues a rivalry that the Tigers have recently dominated. The visiting Yellowjackets are the favorites this year, coming in with only a loss to 4A Poteet, and fresh off a win over higher-ranked Harper. The Tigers lost to Junction last week, so they are already fighting for their playoff lives. I believe the Yellowjackets are for real and will win their next two district games, with their final game in Mason being for first place.
Mason at Harper was to be a battle of unbeatens, but the Longhorns stumbled in their last two games, against La Pryor and Sabinal. Still, the Punchers will make the 30 mile drive to Harper expecting the Longhorns to play their best game of the season to avoid opening district with two losses, and to hand the Punchers their first loss. I’ve got to believe the Punchers will have recovered from the tough workouts and conditioning of their open week and will take this one.

BRACKETTVILLE 14 VS SABINAL 26
HARPER 0 VS MASON 49
JUNCTION - BYE
Next -
Brackettville (2-5, 0-2) @ Mason (7-0, 2-0) - Puncher Homecoming; Tigers better come ready to rumble.
Sabinal (6-1, 2-0) @ Junction (2-4, 1-0) - this one is for playoff seeding.
Harper (5-3, 0-2) - BYE (Good timing for Harper; lots of injured players who need rest and time)

Junction 34 Sabinal 27
Mason 66 Bracketville 0
Harper open
Junction’s win sets up a battle for first when the Punchers travel to play the Eagles at home. The Punchers did not give up a TD in October, and opponents have only scored 4 TDs this season - one each by Goldthwaite, Comfort, Iraan, and Hawley. Only Iraan has scored against the first defense.

Week 10 is interesting, although Sabinal’s non-district game with Brooks Academy shouldn’t be.
Sabinal by a bunch.
Bracketville plays a beat-up Harper team to see who gets their first district win. If, and only if, the Longhorns are still down 8 starters, a feisty Tiger team will prevail.
Mason is at long-time rival Junction in a game that puts someone alone in first place with one game left. The last week Mason plays Sabinal while Junction plays Harper, so all district playoff seeds are mathematically still unsettled. Mason holds the keys - win out to be district champions - but the same is true for Junction! And even if Mason beats Junction, Sabinal can be champs by beating Mason head-to-head.
Fun and exciting two weeks ahead!!!

Not exciting Punchers by 50 on both games. Mason not challenged until maybe Shiner or Refugio or San Augustine in semis. Mart for sure in finals and now ill turn my crystal ball off.

In spite of 125 yards in penalties, the Mason Punchers (9-0, 3-0) slipped past the Junction Eagles (3-6, 2-1) by a score of 56-7, while Brackettville (6-4, 1-3) defeated Harper 14-7 to secure the fourth place seed for the playoffs. Sabinal had a late non-district game with Brooks Academy of Science and Engineering, winning 44-0 to run their season record to 7-2, 2-1 in district. The Punchers and Yellowjackets meet Friday at the Puncherdome in a clash that settles the district championship, while Junction faces Harper (5-4, 0-3). If Mason and Junction both win, playoff seeding will be (1) Mason, (2) Junction (due to head-to-head win over Sabinal), (3) Sabinal, (4) Brackettville. Should Sabinal upset Mason, there will be a three-way tie for first involving Mason, Junction, and Sabinal, but unless Sabinal wins by a lot over Mason, Mason would still have the first place seed due to its 49 point win over Junction. If Mason wins but Junction loses, Sabinal is second and Junction third.

In district 13, Thrall will finish first, and will play Brackettville. If form holds in district 14, Sabinal will play second place Holland. The other two playoff spots in D13 are undecided because, if form holds in district 13, there is a three-way tie for third between Rosebud-Lott (beat Moody by 20, lost to Thorndale by 1 = +19), Moody (lost by 20 to R-L but beat Thorndale by 15 = -5), and Thorndale (Lost to Moody by 15 but beat R-L by 1 = -14). Based on a point system, Rosebud-Lott would be third with a win over Normangee, and Moody would be fourth because it has a head-to-head win over Thorndale, and also higher standing if points are used. In the most likely scenario, Mason will play Moody and Junction will play Rosebud-Lott - but upsets do happen, so we won't know until Friday night after the games.

Let me know the sites when they are determined and I'll post them.

If you watch the two films - Shiner v Refugio, Shiner v Mason - the differences are stark. When Shiner made a defensive mistake Refugio made them pay with explosive plays; we didn’t get many explosive running plays, and most of the few we had were nullified by penalties: 8 for 81 yards. Our normally effective passing game was off, with several near misses on what would have been scores.

It was a game we badly needed, IMO. Shiner is a tough, disciplined team with really big offensive and defensive lines, and very active linebackers. We learned a lot about little things we had gotten sloppy about with too many easy wins. If we are going further in the playoffs those things need to get corrected.

But, you guys are right - the ease of Refugio’s win doesn’t bode well. We will need to improve this week, then play a flawless game and force the Bobcats into errors to win the quarterfinals.

Last 8 weeks refugio has shut out 6 opponents at half and one team had 3 and one team had 7. All district opponents were shut out at half. Defense is coming together. Can Mason get 3 yards at a time to beat Refugio this time? 0 first downs in first half in 2016 this cant happen. To win mason must have long drives hope to get a turnover or two. Dont get behind by multiple scores. Have some success in passing game. Dont turn the ball over and hmmmm what else ohhhh PRAY FOR RAIN to keep Refugio one dimensional.

Yeah, we’ve already heard what a beat down that game will be, but now word is that we won’t get there because Yorktown is too strong. Guess we will just have to show up and see what happens.

When did Mason fans get so soft? I don't recall anybody saying y'all are going to get beat this week.

FF app mostly. We only beat Siner by 7, Yorktown was ahead of Shiner at the half, ergo Yorktown will win. Also, Yorktown is big and has a good running back, ergo... Well, by this time tomorrow it will all be clearer.
