I heard that the other day. Co-worker who lives there told me. Supposedly went to Taylor; 4A school east of Round Rock.
He and the large number of graduating seniors will be missed this fall. Hope they find a good fit for the job.

Not surprised. The early part of his tenure there was difficult. They looked improved last season, but maybe he saw a better opportunity elsewhere. Hope they keep improving, the district is going to be in need of quality teams this year.

He did not resign. He is still there and has another year on his contract. Reynolds has been named head football coach and is a good guy. The current admins are cowards and don't care about a winning. First winning season since 2010. First trip to the playoffs in years. Means nothing to these people

In fairness to H.TIGFAN, pretty sure he received his information from Matt Stepp. Stepp works for Dave Campbell's Texas Football. Here is what was posted on their coaching changes page:

Axtell Longhorns 2A Division I New Rusty Reynolds Old Eric Blenden Record 6-5
Notes: Blenden resigns his post after two seasons where he posted a 9-12 record, former co-DC Reynolds promoted to HFC.

That was a press release from school. They can say whatever they want I guess. No issue with what was posted. Just letting ya'll know he is still there and hasn't taken any other job.

I've heard Goldy has some good kids coming, mainly underclassman?? Maybe the next coach will put Mason back on the schedule. It was ugly the last several years, but I miss that game. If Mason falls back a little and Goldy is on the up swing I'd like to see it happen.

I hope so. I have heard we have some pretty good coaches interested in the job. Hopefully people will put their differences a side and do what’s best for the kids.

I didn't know if there was any controversy, if any. Maybe he is in the process of going to admin area. Better pay and retirement package as principle or maybe a superintendent. Seen that happen several times for coaches.

I want what you are smoking! 0-10 talent that you might get 2 wins if you coach em up! Freshmen class incoming soph are OK--not great with nothing around them-especially the two classes above. It will be a long wait until they are good again and community is split. Coaches don't leave if you have great athletes coming especially if one is best 2a QB in state. WOW

Obviously you haven’t read the board rules.

Go hang out another board if you want to bash the kids. We have had enough of that lately.

First of all he asked a question and didn’t get the answer he was fishing for. Yes I do believe we have talented kids here. You don’t have a traditional program for 30 plus years and suddenly run completely out of talent. Some kids who suffered injuries last year are healing fine and will contribute to the program. I do believe, (and it may very well just be my opinion) we will have one of the best qbs in the state the next few years.

Goldthwaite will be just fine. Getting a new coaching staff that the kids want to play for and believe in will do the school and town some good. The kids are here just half of them quit football under the last coach. Sometimes change is good. Good luck to the new coaching staff and kids.

So you don’t know the difference in a “coach” saying that our kids are 0-10 talent and a fan questioning offensive and defensive schemes (even though I don’t recall doing that) ?

Like I said, You worry about your Dillos and we will take care of Eagles over here.

Questioning the schemes is not bashing coaches. Even the best teams that change things have fans that question it. Look a Refugio, they changed things up and had a lot ask questions but not once was it bashing coaches. Now saying that the kids have no talent and that coaching them up might get two wins is bashing them.

Watch how you put things. As a coach you should never do anything but raise the kids up in public, even to other teams. Talk the bashing stuff in the locker room.

That's interesting since looking at the Goldthwaite Board of Education page they haven't had a meeting since the 13th (long time to keep a new coach hire quiet!!!) and their next one is Wednesday.

That’s Harper, Junction, Sabinal, and Mason with new HF coaches. Are Brackettville and Center Point keeping theirs? Should be an interesting year.

Where did you hear this?

Per Matt Step twitter page.

Sudan HC Keith Virdell has resigned his post to take over as HFC/AD at Goldthwaite; Sudan is open

Keith and his brother went to school in Mason for a while; Diane was a counselor and Mickey was a coach at the high school. Great kids; I can definitely see him as a very successful coach. Good luck to him and The Eagles! Hopefully we can reestablish the rivalry!
