I know the Shiner Girls Are looking for redemption after a close loss in the state final this last season. They once again only lost 3 seniors from last season and still have all of their pitching! Looking forward to a great year! Go ladies!

Never count out Region IV, especially Shiner! I expect to see Shiner in the hunt once again. Not sure what the other regions bring back. Region I typically has Haskell, Petrolia, Windthorst, and Archer City going deep in any given year but this year I think Petrolia brings back a strong cast including their leading pitcher (60+ mph) and hitter so I give them an edge. Region II is Bells until beaten and I'll go with Woden in Region III. Yes it's early so this is mainly guess work until after tournament season is over.

Good luck to all the ladies!

I believe Shiner graduated 5 starters but their pitching staff all return. Look out for Milano out of this region, basically everyone returns including probably the best pitcher in the region. Weimar will be solid with a good pitcher returning. One of these 3 teams will represent Region 4 in Austin. Bells will be very good as will Archer City, Windthorst and Petrolia. Don't think Region 4 will win it all this year....we'll see!

Hi Lynx, good see you again. When I made my list of the top six teams in each region (just my opinion of course) I had Milano and Weimar listed with questions next to each that said "how many bats return". From your comments it looks like Milano will be tough and it seems that Weimar always gives you a run for your money.

It all starts in the circle which helps Shiner but they'll need some bats to repeat in R4. Any idea what Bells returns?

Bells will be very tough and Windydad is correct, Shiner has holes to fill in the field but pitching depth is no problem. Tom Bean, who gave Bells all they can handle will be solid but watch for Petrolia if their bats come around. Martins Mill in R3 will be solid. Hawley in the west will be tough as usual

Bells only had 12 listed on their roster on the UIL website last year for the State Tournament. 5 of which were seniors. The starting pitcher was only a freshmen who went 20-3 leading into the State Tournament. They return 2 Juniors, 2 Sophomore, and 3 Freshmen from the State Tournament Roster.

Lynx mentioned to watch out for Tom Bean in that region. Last year Bells won 5-4, lost 6-7, and won the most important one to get to State 2-0

He is right about Tom Bean and I believe Crawford is in that region as well.

Region 3..
Grapeland, Woden, and Martin's mill.

That's my top three.
I'll take Grapeland this year to come out the region. They have the best pitcher in region 3.. She only gave up one hit in the upset loss to alto last year. I don't believe She gave up more then 5 earned runs all year in a game and that was to top ranked 5A Willis. There three or four slappers lead there team in hitting on base percentage, and scoring. But the hitters just didn't come through last year..We could get them on just couldn't score them. We bring back six starters and three of those are slappers.
Best part adding 5 Freshman. Three of those girls will play 3RD, SS, and 2ND. You will not find a more athletic infield then Grapeland will produce this year. All three will receive D1 offers two of them already have multiple D1 and D2 offers..

We may be a year away because we are so young.

blueboy you are spot on....Grapeland will be tough and if that pitching holds up the Sandiettes could win it all. I think 2A is up for grabs this year, people talk about Region 4 but you have basically just 3-4 solid teams overall in that region and heck in Windthorst district alone there is 3 teams capable of going to Austin.

Top 4 in Each Region:
1- Petrolia, Archer City, Hawley, Windthorst
2. Bells, Crawford, Lindsay, Tom Bean
3. Joaquin, Woden, Grapeland, Martins Mill
4. Milano, Shiner, Weimar, Thorndale

Looks very good and I would agree with perhaps one difference. We defeated Hawley in the playoffs 15-1, 9-1 last year and while they return IF, big-hitter Samantha Newton, they did graduate quite a few especially 3-yr starter Sr Pitcher Marissa Hall. They used a second pitcher against us but she was not at Hall's level last year. Hawley's HC also moved on to a larger school in the metroplex. My choice for the 4th team in R1 would be Haskell. As long as John Foster is coaching, they will be in the hunt.

Good point Windydad...didn't know Hawley lost that much...just know them as a traditional power in that part of the state.

I won't count Hawley out as they have a good tradition and plenty of athletes. I have a good friend from Hawley so I'll ask him how they're looking this year.

I agree with Lynx and Blueboy on Region 3. Woden and Martin's Mill are definately the favorites until they get beat. If the districts go the same way then MM and Woden will battle it out in the top of the bracket. Last year, MM lost both games by 1 run, 13-12 and 6-5, then Woden was given a scare by Joaquin who won G1 3-1, then lost the next two, G2 2-3 and 5-8. Unfortunately for Joaquin, they lost their Pitcher so I dont know if they will be in the hunt again. Grapeland has the talent, but youth can be very inconsistent so we should find out real early what they will be like since the Coach has them playing very tough opposition early. Bells showed that Region 4 is not a shoe-in for the 2A title.

Bells played one heck of a game! Region 4 wasn’t gonna dominate it forever! But It took Bells everything they had to win that game! They earned it! Nothing but respect for them! Shiner is deep though. The JV didn’t lose many games either last season. Plus a solid group of freshmen coming in. There might be holes to fill, but Shiner has the talent pool to fill them. That denial of the first ever 3-peat hurt those ladies! They’re coming back focused, that much I can assure you!

15-2 vs Mexia. Cadie belle had 12 k''s. Kierra, Cierra, Cheney, Cadie belle, and Maci all had 5 hits each.  Four of those are the new Freshman. They smashed the ball tonight. Somethimg we didn't do last year against anyone..

Sounds like a good start to the season - wonder how much both teams were missing to basketball?

Windthorst will be starting our season later than usual; we have no scrimmages scheduled and play our first game on 2/20. Several reasons though; we have a new coach who recently gave birth to her first child and we have six starters in basketball and they have made bball regionals the past three seasons. I'm hoping we're up to speed by the time our second tournament rolls around.

Valley View defeated Deleon round 1. Crawford round 2, and lost to Tom Bean round 3.

Lastyears team had 3 freshman , 6 soph, & 1 junior as starters. We had no seriors period & return our entire team. However some of our returning starters will be pushed from incoming freshman I think

Think we have 25-30 girls out this season. Eight projected starters are in basketball, basically all but the pitcher. How is the turnout with your teams this year?

Grapeland finish off the Lufkin tournament with 3 more losses and a tie. We are playing a very tough schedule. Every pitcher we faced and there lineups are better then anyone in our region. Katie bell pitch lights out almost every game. We're still missing two starters and it showed. Corrgain Camden 0-0, Nederland 2-0 L, New Caney 6-1 L, Hudson 4-3 L. All games came down to the last inning. Then one to many mistakes. But that's why you play at tough schedule.

blueboy....that tough schedule will only help....good pitching seems to dominate early in year...hitters need to see more movement and speed and live pitching....Grapeland looks like a legit contender in that region
