Valley View has some growing up to do, and when I say that I don't mean there is a lack of maturity. These girls are very serious competitors , but they still not there full potential physically yet. I know they have worked hard in strength & conditioning . Lost our head coach to Highland Park so there is some adjustment but we hired from within so the girls seem very comfortable. Right now we are in a group with Alvord & Lindsay if I were guessing & we are all chasing Bells who seems to be consistently ranked top 10. All of these sophomores started as freshman.
Last year we had 2 seniors & 7 sophomores in our starting lineup.

I think they are all pretty good hitters with three of the girls who can hhit the long ball at anytime.
The most under utilized pc of football equipment is 5 man & 7 man blocking sledd

Sorry to correct you, but West was the 3A State Champion last year!!! La Grange won 4A!! Back to goofy rankings - how is the defending state champion not ranked in last weeks rankings??? They are currently 13-2-1

Windthorst is getting better as they work in their new starters. Went 4-1 in the Windthorst Invitational (held at Henrietta HS) without their ace (illness) or their RF (injury). They play this weekend in the Snyder Invitational which will have several top West Texas teams playing. Good luck Trojanettes!

Can't argue your point. AC returned a ton and is playing well. Looking forward to playing them next week to see where we stand as a team. Keep up the good work and we'll all keep making fun of the polls.

We shall see...But yes we are better hitting team this year and possible fielding, lots of depth as well and have 3 legit slappers. Time will tell though one game at a time and Seymour today who always battles us well.

Weimer not in the top 25 is a joke. Not to take anything away from the other 24 teams on that list but Weimar is the only team that would have a chance at beating Shiner.

I don't know what their record is but I know they made another deep run in the basketball playoffs. They lost at the state tournament so I'm guessing they were missing some of their starters due to that. Weimar will bounce back and make plenty of noise.

There's a lot of ways to spin this one but I'll go with Archer City played well and Windthorst did not. We gave up 13 hits and 5 earned runs; however, the 6 errors is what really killed the Trojanettes efforts, that and Archer City's all-around sound play. It was a close game until then.

Hats off to the Ladycats as they earned this victory. Hoping for a different result when they come to visit Windthorst.

Petrolia defeated Windthorst 4-2 on Monday. We (Windthorst) didn't hit the ball well but the bottom line is our last two losses we had a combined 9 errors and you will not win many games until you clean them up.

Shiner overcomes Weimar in district matchup

By Rey Castillo
March 28, 2017 at 11:30 p.m.

Shiner's Claire Patek slides into second base as Weimar's Emma Holland misses the throw during their District 28-2A game at Green-Dickson Park on Tuesday.
Shiner's Claire Patek slides into second base as Weimar's Emma Holland misses the throw during their District 28-2A game at Green-Dickson Park on Tuesday. Angela Piazza for The Victoria Advocate
SHINER - Bethany Nevlud and No. 1 Shiner faced an unfamiliar situation against Weimar in the third inning.

It was the first time in six games the two-time defending state champions trailed in a game this season.

But Nevlud was determined on what she had to do when she faced a 2-2 pitch with two runners on in the bottom half of the third.

Nevlud crushed a three-run home run over the left field fence to give the Lady Comanches (12-1-2, 6-0) a lead they'd never look back on.

Nevlud (8-0) did her part in the circle as well by tossing a solid four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts to lead the Lady Comanches to a 9-4 District 28-2A win over the Lady Cats at Green-Dickson Park on Tuesday.

"I give credit to all of my teammates," said Nevlud, a two-time all-state selection. "We share an overall bond, and that played a part in this huge win. We have faced a lot of lower competition compared to what we saw tonight."

"Bethany did a great job pitching," said Shiner coach Steven Cerny. "Weimar is always going to try and generate a run and take an extra base when you make a mistake. But we rely on our sticks and Bethany came up with a big hit to give us a big inning."

The Lady Cats (9-3, 5-1) got on the board first when Karlee Kansteiner ran home on a wild pitch by Nevlud in the third inning. But they couldn't capitalize after the Lady Comanches scored five runs in the bottom half.

Weimar starting pitcher Darrian Smith earned the loss after surrendering nine runs (three earned) on five hits with four strikeouts. The Lady Cats totaled seven hits with Smith and Kansteiner recording the only RBIs.

"I thought we played well," said Weimar coach Roger Maupin. "The young players are going to have to step up because we made some defensive mistakes. We have to throw strikes and make defensive plays if you want to beat Shiner."

Lauren Haas closed out the game for the Lady Comanches. Haas allowed one unearned run with one strikeout. Lauren Schuette finished 1-for-4 with a two-run single. Catcher Madison Jalufka went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

"We say all year that you have to beat Weimar," Cerny said. "When you can play with Weimar, you have a chance to beat anybody."

"We can't overthink the game when we play Weimar," Nevlud said. "But there's always that spark that hits us every year, and it gets us ready for the bigger games in the future."

Valley View dropped a pair this last week or so Lindsay by 1 pt. & Chico by 1 pt.. Maturity & a small injury didn't help us.. We should be ok as I think our girls we go undefeated this second round through district. Lindsay defeated Collinsville Friday to even their series but it also put Lindsay in sole possession of first place.

Possibly, I'm seeing they beat Moulton 19-2 on Tuesday and they beat Louise 21-0 tonite... not sure how many innings these games took, but I doubt they were full games. Shiner probably won't play a complete game again until they face Weimar again.

Archer City at Windthorst tomorrow 5:00 PM - round 2

Archer City won the first game 10-3. As with most county rival games, this should be a good one.

Great job! I heard Lindsay was tough so great job holding their bats down.

We split the district series with them. They beat us a few weeks back at home by a 2 to 1 score. We had some fielding error in that game, but we bounced back Friday with solid performance. Lindsay still leading district race as I previously stated as we dropped two unexpected games to Alvord & Chico in addition to our one loss to Lindsay. Lindsay has just two loses , one to us & one to Collinsville. Valley View while needing to win out will also need some help to win district with someone else hanging a loss on the Knights. We defeated Alvord the first time pretty good, but they are still a good team.. they have a couple of ladies that can put it over the fence. Collinsville is the same way as we defeated them both times this year 4-0. They also have a couple of girls that can smack it a little, and I did not feel like we were ever comfortably ahead of them. Chico is the one team I haven't seen in our district.

Shiner beat Flatonia 13-0 in 5 innings, perfect game from pitcher Bethany Nevlud!!! One night after a no hitter from Lauren Haas. Got a solid 1-2 punch going on!
