Albany defeats Petrolia 21-17 to sweep series.

Albany led 16-1 and Petrolia was down to their last strike, but they scored 10 runs in the 5th and 6 in the 6th.

Normangee gets out of a 2nd and 3rd 1 out situation without any further damage as Woden leaves the bases full. Need 3 runs to extend game, 4 to win.

Normangee with the walk-off RBI single defeats Woden 8-7 in the first semi-final.
Left handed slapper poked the pitch into left field.

It always seems to never fail when a team leaves the bases juiced and doesn't score the other team seems to have a big inning in the following inning.

Woden does some "weird" things with their pitchers. I noticed versus Grapeland they started their #1 according to record. She pitched 2 innings then they brought in another pitcher who threw for two innings, then they brought back in the starter.

Against Normangee they started their #2 pitcher and threw her for 2 innings. They brought the girl in with a 14-1 record and she walked the first 2 batters she faced, then gave up 2 more hits and Normangee wound up scoring 3 runs in the inning. They then brought back the 1st pitcher who pitched the rest of the game.

13-0 heading to the B5.

Albany has left 8 runners on base - twice loaded the bases and got no runs out it including once with no outs.

I agree. Woden Coach left #8 in after those walks and let Normangee back in. She started #8 against us and then took her out after 2 innings. She then finished the rest of the game with #13. All five of the runs scored in the game were unearned. I was disappointed with the play from Albany. 13-0 is a whooping in a State game. Bells sure made it look easy.

In other news.....Petrolia's coach is leaving. He is taking the Haskell job, who Petrolia beat 6-1 in the opening round of the playoffs.

Saw on Twitter, he mentioned he had to do what's best for his family to one of his player's parents.

Have a feeling this goes back to the fiasco Petrolia started by hiring a new football coach when they already had one under contract. I noticed they still have 4 coaching openings on the Region IX website including both basketball jobs.

Windthorst has been on both ends on those whippings in a State Championship game. Defeated Dallardsville Big Sandy 11-0 in '05 and took a whipping against Shiner 13-0 in '16.

Albany's run to Region I title had some eyebrow moments. This speaks for itself, 14 runs, 10 runs, and 17 runs (10 in one inning). Granted Bells gave up 12 in a game too. Their GC scorer scores everything a hit even when a batter reaches on error, so their batting averages are severely inflated. They took advantage of the errors and walks in the playoffs. Bells only had 1 error and only gave up 2 walks.

Have a feeling the State Championship won't be starting on time. 3A semi-final is currently in the Top of the 11th. Vernon finally broke through and scored some runs to break the tie but Rains will have their chance for a comeback still.

Game is tied at 4 after 5.

Normangee needs to clean up their defense/wild pitches have also moved runners around the bases. All of Bells are unearned.

Bells scored 3 in the second. A lead-off single was the only ball hit out of the infield. Bells run in the 5th following a walk, 2 WP moved runner to 3rd, following a fly out another error extended the inning while allowing the run to score.

Region 4 will be happy to see them go!!! Region 4 had won the State Championship from 2011-2016. Forsan won in 2010 which is also the last time a team that wasn't in District 7 or District 8 hadn't made the State Tournament.

Slocum wins back to back 1A State Championships as they down Ector 3-0.

Slocum will be moving back up to 2A next season where they will try to be a thorn in the side of Woden and Grapeland. Woden returns just about their entire line-up. Slocum 3 losses were to Grapeland 2-10 and 4-9, and Woden 5-10. Slocum loses 5 seniors.

Grapeland started 4 freshmen, 3 sophomores and 2 juniors. They are also adding a fresh that will be able to help in the batting lineup. This group will continue to get better and it will be an interesting year. Let's not forget Harleton, Beckville, Garrison and Leon will be coming in to Region 3 from Class 3A. The most runs the Sandiette defense surrendered was 6 runs, once to Class 5a Caney Creek in February and to Leon. Leon has the potential to make some noise if they can get better defensively. Slocum is always competitive.
