I must have missed that in the article - I read about mind games in Lindsay blowout but nothing in the State Tournament about mind games.

When you are trailing outs on the base paths are killer this late in the ball game. I know it's difficult to rein in the aggressiveness but you have to be smart and not get picked off

Rooting for Flatonia. I hope Region 4 came take another championship, but Beckville is going to be TOUGH. Anyone know how good Beckville's #2 pitcher is?

He's 9-0 according to the UIL website. I saw a preview story on Beckville they are fairly young - start 3 seniors and the rest are sophomores or freshmen. Be interesting how they respond to being the in the Big game.

The Waco Trib article was referring to the Lindsay game.
SFComanche get your facts straight before you make a low-class comment like that. All four teams have worked hard to get to the semi's and deserve to be shown some respect.

The strategy BV used vs. Lindsay worked; and that's part of the game plan in lots of sports- get in your opponents head, figure them out, make them second guess themselves.

I have to congratulate Flatonia on a well played game & win. Ya'll had our number today. Best of luck in the finals.
Bosqueville keep your heads up. Great season!

Here is thing about BV - year in and year out they appear to be one of the better teams in the state but for whatever reason they just don't get it done - whether that is mental block and yeah we are blowing people out or what who knows. Most kids haven't been coached on how to deal with the media and in this case I think some of their bravado comes from their coach. Two years ago Bville was 23-0 and the coach made some snide remark about how they were better and had no qualms about playing a one game series well in the 10 inning AC came up with the walk-off win when Bville was again ranked #1. I understand backing your kids and believing in them but somewhere down the road this is going to be a team that is going to reach up a bite you when you least expect it.

Flatonia went thru some very good 2A teams to make it to this point, plus they beat some very good bigger teams to start the season, records are always misleading, it's all about who you play. Flatonia is a big rival for us, but I wish them the best tomorrow, at least we can say we got beat out by the State Champs. I know they have a real solid pitcher left, and the other 2 didn't throw enough to wear out their arms, they should be in good shape going into the Final.

You make some valid points. I'm a casual follower, at best, of HS baseball but I've seen that trend, too. Almost always in the hunt but not able to get that title.
The coach has to walk the line between instilling confidence in his players and being over confident. For me personally, over confidence is off-putting and even more so in a coach because he's setting an example for his players. But in the newspaper article it seemed to me that he was just really pleased with how their plan worked and proud of how his players executed and had confidence in their ability to win again. I know the coach and he doesn't come off to me as a proud or arrogant person so I didn't personally pick up that tone from the article. Did he take it too far? Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. This kind of thing is open to interpretation and we don't all see it the same. I can see how others could interpret it differently from me.
Anyway the better team won today and so they had the last word on the subject.

I think the disappointment is greater when you you think you have that great team until in the semis it all goes south. Yes, State Champions and being the creme of the Cream at top of the iceberg is what everyone wants. But in my opinion winning your Region is a tough, tough accomplishment. You can do a lot of scouting on teams in your region and know them like the back of your hand with the amount of information you gather, but at the State level/tournament it's a crap shoot.

Just go play and mistakes are ten fold a couple of bad innings sinks you. We had some success bunting against B'ville and Flatonia did it perfectly in the first. B'ville didn't panic and came back but then errors sank their ship as the Flatonia's lead-off batter reached on an error and wound coming around to score. Then what really sank there ship was the start of the 5th lead-off again reaches on an error and next batter was plunked.

You have to tip your hat to Migl Flatonia's second pitcher of the game who came on in the third with the bases loaded and shut down Bosqueville only allowing one run to score in that inning. He walked only one and gave up one hit in the four innings he pitched.

Yeah, from what I read yesterday Flatonia did what they needed to do and they did it well.
Been a great season for both teams. According to the brackets they're two of the top four in 2A and that's a big accomplishment.
