Have to give credit to New Deal for coming up with the big pitches and defensive plays. Double plays ended the the 6th and 7th innings. Bases loaded in the 8th with 1 out (which was a caught stealing) and can't get a run across the plate. 16 LOB

Thanks Uncle, that first game today was one of the most competitive ball games I have seen in years. I don't know how those young men survived the heat today. I was cooked well done in the dugout with no wind. My cameras never shut off on heat warning but they got to hot to hold and I had to keep swapping them out and cooling one off.

Painful ending to a great season. Proud of that group of kids & coaches. Best of luck to New Deal the rest of the way.

I find it interesting that Thorndale and Dallardsville Big Sandy are playing on Saturday. At first I thought anyone who threw over 85 pitchers and threw on Saturday would not be eligible to pitch on Wednesday, opening day of State Tournament. There is a however a rule in UIL manual that over rides the pitch count rule:

Pitching Limitation. Pitch count limitations apply to the State Tournament. Each pitcher will be allotted 110 total
pitches for the entire tournament. The Pitch Count Rule stays in affect during the State Baseball Tournament. Pitch
counts will be tabulated by an onsite statistician (teams will not have to supply an official pitch counter). Each team
will be at “Full-Strength” with all pitchers entering the State Tournament. Each pitcher will have a maximum of 110
pitches to throw during the State Tournament. The official pitch counter will be behind home plate compiling the
pitch counts. Coaches may meet with the official pitch counter behind home plate in between innings to check
counts.

This is kind of ironic since in the general expectations section of the baseball manual it states:
There will be NO change to regulations in post-season play. (i.e.: no increase in pitch count max or leeway in rest days)

Granted most teams this deep in the playoffs probably have their pitchers on some sort of throwing program between starts, but doesn't wave the rest days circumvent their rules!!!

New Deal scores 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to come back from 2 down and defeat Hawley 4-3 and punch their ticket to the State Tournament. The rally started with an one out error and the winning run scored on a ground out which should have ended the inning. That being said Hawley had a chance to tie the game back up in the Top of the 6 as they had a single and a New Deal error put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. A bunt attempt to move the runners failed as New Deal was able to get the lead runner at 3rd. A single by the next batter loaded the bases but a Fly out to RF wasn't able to move the runners up and the next batter proceeded to ground out to the pitcher.
