Well, Windthorst has to beat Munday, November 1 @Holliday first, but thanks for the vote of confidence.

I think last year's state champion, Iola, was a fairly young team and at 36-1 look strong again.

I still think Lindsay will be in the championship game, possibly vs Iola, but I am not ruling out the Region I champ from making a play for the championship as well. Should be a good one in Garland, TX again!

Hawley Lady Bearcats sweep Electra in volleyball playoff opener
Joey D. Richards , Abilene Reporter-News

GRAHAM — This playoff thing is new to most of the Hawley volleyball team, which returns only three players from last year. That said, the Lady Cats took care of business Tuesday night, beating Electra 25-17, 25-17, 25-18 in a Class 2A bi-district playoff match.

"I was pleased overall," Hawley coach Amy Eckoff said. "I think in the beginning we played a little nervous. There were parts in the whole match where we played really nervous. I've got a lot of young kids. I've got three returners from last year, and everybody is young as far as varsity experience is concerned. This is their first playoff game, so I expected some jitters. But overall, I'm pleased. You can't be disappointed in a win."

Samantha Newton pounded out 11 kills, while Madison Chaney and Vanice Bailey added seven each for Hawley (27-8), which advances to play De Leon in the area round. Rylee Powell had 18 assists and Newton had nine. Newton also had five digs, while Powell and Trinity Rister had four each. Hannah Rule and Lainey Taylor had three blocks.

Chaney, Newton and Reagan Chapman are the returnees from last year.

Alexa Daniel led Electra with six kills, and Brenn Myers followed with four. Alyssa Waggoner had three.

REGION I-2A BI-DISTRICT

HAWLEY DEF. ELECTRA 25-17, 25-17, 25-18

Digs: Newton 5, Rister 4, Powell 4, Reagan Chapman 3, Rule 1. Blocks: Taylor 3, Rule 3, Chaney 2, Bailey 2, Speed 2. Aces: Taylor 2, Rister 2, Powell 2, Chapman 2, Rule 1.

ELECTRA — Kills: Alexa Daniel 6, Brenn Myers 4, Alyssa Waggoner 3. Assists: Daniel 4, Waggoner 1, Myers 1. Digs: Myers 6, Daniel 5, Waggoner 4. Blocks: Myers 1.

RECORDS — Hawley 27-8; Electra n/a.

According to Max Preps you are correct about Albany winning 3 sets to 2... I am not sure about this being the score from last year though. I got this news story directly online from Abilene Reporter News... Who knows how they got the wrong information or how the two scores were fouled up..???

Probably the same way I almost posted the same score last night - searched for Petrolia-Albany on Twitter and saw that one of our local sportscasters tweeted that our but paid no attention that the Tweet was from 2015!!! I had to go back and edit my post!!!

Well for you it is just a common mistake... But for someone that is reporting the news on a website and in a local hard copy newspaper, to me that is unacceptable... But the main thing is you caught it because of your areas local news, so it is good that you said something. I don't twitter, or Facebook, or Instagram, or lastly Myspace... HA HA... =)) I still use Pony Express !!! Hey, if it works don't fix it.... :))

But, all jokes aside, someone should notify ARN if they have not already....

Windthorst plays Miles @ Eastland High School tomorrow at 6:00 PM. Looking at records, Miles has had problems this year with perennial powers Wall, Water Valley and Bronte but recently knocked off strong teams like Hawley and Albany. I know they had a 6'3" post player who is very good in basketball and I suspect with her height is a good volleyball player as well. Windthorst had issues with Archer City, who are favored to reach the regional finals, but the Trojanettes are playing much better after defeating an athletic Hico team and may be peaking at the right time. This should be a good match-up with Miles hitter vs Windthorst defense and servers. Good luck to these young ladies!

Agreed, Archer City will be hard to beat but that's why they play the games.

Top Ten Playoff Upsets (In my opinion and there are lots of losses that are not upsets)
From TGCA Website
Alamo Heights over Dripping Springs
Lewisville Hebron over Waco Midway
Milano over Crawford
Ponder over Scurry Rosser
Weimar over Burton
Cypress Woods over Houston Bellaire
Seguin over Victoria West
Windthorst over Miles

Looks like it's guaranteed an Archer County team will go to the state tournament again!

Can't complain about finishing in the top eight. Girls played hard but Archer City deserved the win. Good luck AC at state!

Well, I admit I had one wrong and am surprised to see Lindsay lost to Thrall. Lindsay is young and has size so I expect them to be back in the mix next year. All I know about Thrall is they must be good to beat Lindsay and I wish I could see the Archer City Ladycats take them on this week. I'm betting it will be a very good match and I expect Iola to be awaiting the winner. Good luck to all.

That is very true! However I'm going with Archer City vs Iola in the final.

That's who I'm leaning toward but it's a guess for me and iola is the defending champ
