Volleyball 2014

Postby WindthorstDad » Mon Aug 04, 2014 3:56 pm

A lot of folks buzzin' about football but volleyball has also begun. Proud of our Windthorst Trojanettes for finishing State Runner-Up last season and wish them well on a return to state in 2014.

We have a tough district opponent in the Archer City LadyCats who played in the Region final last season.

Who are your tough match ups this season?

We have Centerville in our district this year so that should be tough. Our ladies won the Fairfield tournament today which included a win over Corsicanna. Great start to the season!!!

Great job to the Iola Lady Bulldogs! Our Windthorst Trojanettes won the Boomtown Blowout in Burkburnett, this weekend, for the very first time. Mostly played against larger 3A and 4A schools. Still have a lot of work to do but glad for the early results. Good luck to Iola this season.

Sounds like Archer City gave us everything and more - 25-23, 20-25, 25-23. Our setter went down on Friday and a freshmen stepped up to take her place. Not sure how much volleyball the young lady played over the summer as she plays on an elite basketball team out of DFW, that won a few large tournaments.

Just like last season, I fully expect Archer City to be our hardest test getting to the playoffs. Depth will be important if injuries mount as our only other setter is on JV after those two you mentioned. I believe we have several hitters and defensive specialist.

Good luck to Windthorst also. I was a little torn going to watch the girls play the other day now that my girl has graduated. This year has a good mix of young talent along with Senior Amanda Gooch who has been all state since her freshmen year.

I hear you Iola fan, I'm lucky my youngest daughter is a Sophomore, however, this is my son's senior year and I've already made plans to travel with a friend to every game next year. I will miss him playing but I would miss it more if I wasn't at a game supporting the kids.

Truly enjoying Trojanette Volleyball now that district has begun. The girls took down the Archer City Lady Cats 25-13, 26-24, 25-21 at Archer City this past Tuesday. Archer City and Windthorst (are in the same district) battled for the Region championship last season with Windthorst advancing and finishing State Runner-Up. This years team is showing promise as the girls are coming together. Neat thing about this year's team is it only has one Senior (non-starter). So the entire team returns next year along with two very good Sophomore who are moving up for this years playoffs. Windthorst volleyball is looking good.

Ac and windy are both good. Ac doesn't lose 1 player this yr. Also deep a some really good freshman that actually have heighth. Going to be a battle everytime

Heard we had alot of unforced errors , hit outs etc and y'all's Schrieber girl is for real, lots of kills. Can't have lots of unforced and beat windy.

Archer City visited Windthorst Saturday and played very well, but in the end the Trojanettes won in four sets thus sweeping the LadyCats in district play. With no other teams able to challenge, our district will finish with Windthorst 1st and Archer City 2nd. Might be a bit early but I am making hotel reservations for Snyder, TX where Regionals are being played. Would not be surprised to see Archer City there again.

I went and watched Iola play last week against Normangee. They look really good as long as Amanda Gooch stays healthy I think they will be able to compete with anyone. They still have a match at Centerville in district which could be tough but they swept them at home the first time they played. They beat some state ranked teams like Caldwell at their place in nondistrict. Ought to be interesting when playoff time hits!

We have no answer for the Schreiber girl...LOL. Hey just tip my hat ya'll are just a touch better than us right now. Proofs in the pudding. Although always great matches and close sets, ya'll seem to win everytime, that's not luck. Hopefullly meet in reg. finals and ya'll are a touch off....LOL

Great job Iola. Windthorst also swept through district play undefeated. We have a warm-up game against a 3A school on Saturday and then await our first playoff opponent. My daughter was moved up to Varsity so I'm even more motivated now for a deep playoff run. ;)

Good luck to Iola in the playoffs and hoping we see you in Garland.

Good luck to you also Windthorst! We played Caldwell again in a warm-up match and lost in four games. The final game was 32-30. I like that coach played them again because our district was not much of a test. Well its playoff time we will see howit goes!

The Hawley girls went over to Synder on Saturday night to play the Miles girls... We had played and beaten them during the year and I guess our girls were overconfident or just not well prepared as we walked into a buzz saw of a match... The Miles girls played lights out and it was never even close, thus sending the Hawley girls home...

Congrats on a good win to the Miles girls and congrats on a good season to the Hawley girls...

This might be the best team Iola has brought to the state tournament. We lost one game to Centerville at their place during district otherwise against 2a competition we have not lost a game in a match. We have not one a state chamionship in any sport ever so the girls will definitely be ready! Good luck to everyone!

Ought to be great matchup between Iola and Schulenberg on Friday. I hope we can pull it out cause I will have to listen to that one on the radio. Going up for the football game friday night and will go to the championship game on Saturday morning if we make it! Gooch definitely is our go to player! She signed to play with Sam Houston State last week. We have a good mix of younger girls to that are really good. Should be a good one!

I don't know jack abt vball but who was the team everyone thought wld win it last yr and Windy sent packing in semis. Basically no one has a clue who will win it. Whoevers hot is what i suspect. Why shld Iola and Schulenberg win it all? Have u seen Lindsay or AC? I bet not.

What I do know is after yrs of being Arnd state finals, and deep playoff runs in various sports, is they are all dang good at this pt. and all can win it.

Amazing AC wasn't even ranked in top 20 most of the yr. Now that's comical. But no more under the radar for these girls, cats out if the bag so to speak and AC is very young and return everyone nxt yr.. The all tournament team at regional was a freshman, a sophomore and MVP is a JR
